A meld of materials, textures, and elements indigenous to the surrounding Mexico region and landscape

I keep coming across this home (located in Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, France) during my online castle stalking ventures and though I adore this castle the confusing and at times unsightly décor kept stopping me. But I realized that for much of this feature it is about dreaming of what could be. So if the interior is too much for you, keep your eyes peeled for the exterior photos. WHOA! It’s all about the balance. The balance between the natural environment and the man-made, between sustainability and resilience as well as style and panache. The balance between inside and out, of making a statement and blending in, of being a shelter from the elements but sitting lightly on the ground. I think the balance is perfect. A building with an illustrious past, the Hotel Saint Vincent‘s story begins 160 ago when it was opened as the Saint Vincent’s Infant Asylum by the heroic Margaret Houghery. Unveiled in the summer of 2021, in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District, the careful restoration of this 1861 building honors its stately history while layering on a new sense of modernity. The interior spaces are a marriage of original 19th century detailing with mid-20th century Italian design elements. Including 75 guestrooms and suites, guests and members can enjoy drinks by the newly refurbished pool or the dark and moody Chapel Club. Our San Lorenzo restaurant serves coastal Italian fare to locals and guests as well as the Paradise bar where all are welcome. The Elizabeth Street cafe offers breakfast pastries, coffee and Vietnamese fare throughout the day.

A warm wind stirs, the cicadas sing, the sun moves lazily across the rooms. Shadow and light, natural materials and a sense of a long, languid presence. We’re in Sydney but it’s the Mediterranean we dreaming of. A casual unaffected elegance. Wilkinson Villa by Handelsmann & Khaw.
