Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 8 Nov 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

17 year old Muffy is still going strong. This is her yawning and stretching on a mid-century chair inherited from Nonna.
Julia (Ottawa, On)

I send you some pictures of Eva resting in my bed, sorry her bed.
Carla (Argentina)

This is a photo of Bug our Miniature Schnauzer in one of his favorite places…the bed!
Evan (Los Angeles)

I visited my 5 day old niece Gianna (and my little sister and her husband) on Friday and after taking a whack of photos of the baby I managed to get some of her 2 cats Pugley (a Persian I adopted from the Humane Society several years ago) and Mini (a stray from Thailand that my sister’s friend rescued and flew with her all the way back to Canada).
– me (Kim)

Roger our cute cat who has just finished drinking out of the vase at home in Point Piper Sydney…and on the patio relaxing when we used to live in North Sydney!
– Michael (Sydney)

Here is Milo, our funny little feline.  Milo lives in Toronto, Canada and he can be seen here enjoying the sun in his favorite chair, in front of the bay window.
– Michel + Mandy

Fat Pussy enjoying the piano stool in the sunroom of our Kings Cross apartment.
– Kane + Adrian

This is Dexter, our 78 lb lap dog.  He’s a stray that we’ve been fostering for the past week, ever since he was bit by another dog and had to get stitches.  I know this chair isn’t the greatest.  I bought it off of Craigslist because I love the style, and I’ve been meaning to get it recovered, but all of our pets seem to love it just the way it is.  It’s the favorite chair in the house.  And I couldn’t resist sharing this as Dexter thinks he fits in it just fine!
– Kim (Austin, TX)

Riley loves this patchwork quilt and always insists that the bed be made.
– Jana

Here is my cat, Chicklet playing with my fish Sushi!  He uses her fish tank as a water bowl and the fish comes up to the surface to “visit”.  They have co-existed for 8 months like this!
– Ginny

This is Patches relaxing on our bed. Charlie our other dog and LuLu our cat are probably already starting their day.

This is Gabe. He goes to work with my wife at Jonathan Adler sometimes and there are many many beds and couches for him to take naps on. I sent you one more that technically is not on furniture but it is still in the store and just too funny not to share.
– Rob

This is our puggle Honey. She thinks she is a human, seriously. To sleep she requires a comfy spot AND a pillow. She puts a smile on our faces daily.
– Adrianne (Phoenix, AZ)

This is Lady Moneypenny, our 3 year old Airedale girl—sitting on my Great Grandfather’s Chair. She thinks she’s as fancy as the chair is.
– Jessica

My husband, Jon, and I own Perch Furniture–a little custom furniture studio in Portland, Oregon. Our labrador, Domino, comes to work with us every day, and he has never once tried to get on a sofa. But this little chihuahua, Daisy, stopped by one afternoon,  popped right up on sofa and made herself comfortable. So cute!
Willi

This is my dog, Garcia, having an afternoon nap in our Brooklyn apartment. The couch, and Garcia, have moved with me four times during the last six years.
– Kristin

This is my 8-yr-old cat Gizmo sitting on a beautiful chair that I inherited from my grandmother.
– Lindsay (Atlanta)

Hope these pics of my Granddogs who recently relocated from Michigan to Switzerland (along with their two people) and favorite chair appear some time soon on your GREAT blog. Pics are taken in Switzerland, proving home truly is with those you love & a well-loved chair.
– Jo Anne

I bought this chair for $5 at a yard sale and my mom reupholstered it for me 15 years ago.  I love the sheepskin over the seat and so does my new little kitty Titi.
Cindy

This is Max. 1.5 yr gray tabby. He lost his sister this year (we think a coyote took her) and he has been so lonely since July.
Robin

These are my friend Joanne’s bichons on the sofa in the family room.

This is Bear. He usually just likes sitting on laps, but looks pretty good on this red chair.
– Hillary

This is Max, our oldest cat sleeping in the sun on an old chair (one of a pair) that my husband rescued from the trash.  All I did was strip the layers of brown paint off the arms and legs.  The pleather is awesome–way easier to clean off the cat hair!
– Cheryl (Halifax, NS)

This is ‘Puce’ (meaning ‘Flea’ in French) my parents little dog in Cognac, France. Here he is sitting on this lovely little chair in the garden of their home.
– Zoe

Slightly chewed Dux armchair + Oliver and Flora
– Leah (Oakland, CA)

My gals Ripley and Scout, ten years old and ladies of leisure…
– Sarah

Jackie O, is a pekashu with taste! instead of napping and lounging in her newly made (by moi) vintage suitcase dogbed (photo attached) she much prefers velvet tufted chairs.
Melissa (Seattle, WA)

Our puggle, Bean, seems to find comfort in the most unusual positions.
– Faith (Minneapolis, MN)

Below is Poochi Payne, my 9 yr. old rat terrier, hanging out on my loveseat. If not picked up to sit on furniture he will huff away in an indignant snit!
Poochi Payne hanging out on my carpet. He NEVER sits on the floor if there’s a layer. If there’s no rug or layer, he’ll stand with a “no thanks I’ll pass” look.

– Juliana

My friend’s dog Diiva is fun character and a real Diva. She has won the Jack Russel World champion title some year’s ago. Here she is resting in my house on an inherited 40’s chair. The pillow is made by me of fabric swatches.

Here’s my dog Chewbacca on a suitcase-turned-petbed I recently made.”
Judy (Ventura County, California)

My English Bulldog Vixen, is obsessed with squirrels. When she isn’t sleeping, she’s usually perched here planning her next attack on the squirrels in the back yard.
– Jennifer (Charlotte, NC)

Lily Pearl Bibb Glynn, (a Coton de Tulear), lounges perfectly on the upper west side in Manhattan.
– Kathleen

This is Norman, my 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. He loves my new plush leather furniture, especially the chair, which he barely fits into. He’s size XL for a Berner, around 120 lbs of luv but he squeezes himself in to this thing every night and snores away.
– Lisa (St. Paul, MN)

I’ve been meaning to take some shots of my Chihuahua Pete on various furniture for consideration of your Pet’s on the Furniture feature – in the last few shots he’s on an antique dining chair.
Carrie

1. My lynx point himalayan cat, Toulouse, sitting on a vintage radio/side table that I found in my grandparents’ attic and had restored. And yes, it still works!
2. My shih tzu, Molly, resting in her favorite spot on our sofa.
3.  Toulouse and Molly together…

– Leah, Molly, and Toulouse Jacob (New Orleans, LA)

I love this series, so attached is a photo of my two pugs Leroy & George “helping” us install our new kitchen cabinets in our concrete block 1950s home. They’ve been great so far, always right under foot in case we need a break from holding up the cabinets to pet a pug.
– Krista (Santa Barbara, CA)

This is an image of my French Bulldog Sophie in our NYC apartment.  We were playing domino’s one night with friends and she was begging to sit in my lap, and this is what we ended up with!  We didn’t pose her, she just wanted to be part of the action!
– Kirstin

Love the Monday post for Pets on Furniture and wanted to submit a photo of our little Louie – and a cool vintage chair, too! We call this Mad Men Louie, inspired by the retro velvet chair and stocked bar cart. I think she takes after her moms in her need for a drink after a long day of…. well, sleeping in her case!

My sister’s family dog, Harry Potter Grey, enjoying the morning sun at our cottage on the U.S. side of Lake Erie. Junk shop chair & Ikea shelf. Halloween bandanna from the groomer….
– Martta

Bruno is our love! He is a Balinese boy, loves glamorous furniture and he lives in Sweden.
– Tina

Peanut is such a snob.  After we got our new sofa, he wouldn’t even think about going on the old loveseats.  😉
– Julie (Minneapolis, MN)

Magnolia Celementine soaking up the sunshine on her princess bed, her favorite spot in our house!
– Alexandra & Olivia (Richmond, Virginia)

Here’s my buddy, on top of the couch. I had stripped it to clean the slipcovers. It was two pile high with cushions. And he managed his way to the top.
Cathy

This is our schnauzer-poodle mix Auggie, perched on the back of the couch.
– Kelly (WA)

This is Mini, my 7-year old toy poodle, who likes to sit on the edge of the chair in the living room and look out of our 4th story window onto the street below. Not sure what she is looking at in the picture, but perhaps it is something tasty-looking.
– Jackie Huba (Austin, TX)

1- This is Lily when she was about 2-1/2 years old, perched on her favorite pillow on our “Dogbone” sofa from ABC Furniture. Sadly, we just bid farewell to our dear girl. We had 15 great years with her, and she spent much of her time curled up on this sofa.
2- I remember meeting this dog and taking this picture 7 or 8 years ago, I think in Portugal, but I don’t recall the name of the dog or who its people are.”
