Monday’s pets on furniture – part 1

Posted on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

Kitty loves to curl up for a nap or sit on the back of the sofa in our living room. We love the mid-century feel of this charcoal sofa – even if it doesn’t hide her hair all that much.”
– Matthew (Nashville, TN)

The pet is our cat called Taxi and the piece of furniture is my cheap white Ikea-seat that I have for more than ten years now. The kid is our daughter, Esmée. This picture is taken in July 2009, a few days before her first birthday. Although this scene suggests otherwise, Taxi and Esmée get along fine.”
– Alexandra (Antwerp, Belgium)

Tessie taking a siesta after a big swim in the coy pond.
– Dan (Brookline, MA)

I saw this sweet pooch one day while I was at our local rock quarry getting some nice stones for our aquarium. This is the waiting room.  I don’t remember his name but the owners assured me that no one else was allowed in the chair!
– Rebecca (Portland, Oregon)

This is Mike my 4 years old Boston Terrier.
– Julia (Venezuela)

This is our beloved cat, Hampus. He is 1,5 years old and was a homeless cat once. But now he is just fine – and he really appreciates almost all the furnitures that we have…
– Emöke (Malmö, Sweden)

This is Stella sunbathing on our mid-century modern ottoman (the ottoman was my grandmothers and I used to take naps on it as a kid, a tradition she now keeps alive) I also like to think she has good taste in furniture.
Kevin (NYC)

Miss Bee finally fell asleep after renovating a few items in our house. It is all new to her and she thought the forbidden couch was her style.
Miss Bee enjoying an afternoon snooze on my flea market chair. I recovered the chair with a funky quilt.

– Marilyn (Regina, Saskatchewan)

Here are my babies, Hudson and Arnold.
– Jessica

Ashes has the priviledge to sleep wherever she wants and she really likes this cabinet my grandfather built for me. Judging by the look in her eyes, she didn’t really like the photo session.
– Jelena (Novi Sad, Serbia)

*****HAPPY THANKSGIVING fellow Canadians!!!!*****

Jitters is catching a little sun on the vintage folding chair that my mother re-weaved! It also one of my few salvageable pieces that went through Katrina.
Heidi (Hattiesburg, MS)

This is my whippet Marvin. I love him. The smiling couch photo was taken while I was photographing something else and he kept nudging me to get my attention. So, I turned around and he was laying there smiling at me. HILARIOUS. The bed photo proves that HE believes it is ok to sleep, nap, lay on top of my bed. Although, as a rule in my house, it is not.
Danielle (Durham, North Carolina)

Winnie and Bendel wanted me to share with you some candid shots from over the weekend.
Winnie – French Bulldog, 10 months. Bendel – Toy Yorkie, 2.5 years.

– Scott & Jess

Here’s my silly Yorkie named Marley. I think he thinks he’s a cat— loves to be on the furniture with something soft underneath him! This is his current favorite spot in the house.
– Katie (Knoxville, Tenn.)

Beatrix surveying the room from the top of our wing back chair
-Jessica (Austin, TX)

This is my cat sitting on top of the red locker.
Annelie (Umeå , Sweden)

I have gone back so many times to your sofa that you built yourself, and have kept saying to myself “I can do that”. I’ve been searching forever for the perfect sleeper sofa with no luck. Mine is nothing like yours, to be honest, but you insprired a fellow Ottawan to give it a shot. I found fabric that I couldn’t pass up and just had to do SOMETHING with, and I came back your post again. It’s finally finished and being lived on by my cat Doug.
– Erin (Ottawa, On.)

This is Guapo. He loves being on furniture, whether its our vintage leather club chair, radiator cover or coffee table.
– Anne

I enjoy reading and viewing your Monday’s posts featuring pets. They are so cute. I wanted to submit two pictures of my miniature pinchers for feature in next weeks ‘pets on furniture’ post
– Marilyn

This is our 5 month old German Wirehaired Point, Otto, who was caught yesterday sitting on the living room chair. He’s taken a liking to this chair as it’s just his size and of course, the lightest colored piece of furniture that we own, now covered in brown hair. 🙂
– Kristin (Denver, CO)

At my mother’s urging, I am sending you a picture of Jake – our 6month-old Weim/Lab puppy – on our Ikea leather couch. He’s a big (and getting bigger) Cubs fan!
– Amanda

Violet and Coco, my perfect pair of library bookends! 🙂
– Debbie (Michigan, USA)

Double Trouble, Mandy (Panda) and Jack Black Daniels, A Pirate (the little one, yes, thats how he’s registered) enjoying the cool leather on a hot summer night
– Mel (Tampa, Florida)

Our lovely Ollie relaxing in his favourite spot on the mohair, suede and leopard print niche in our kitchen where he relaxes every day whilst we cook. A far cry from when Ollie first turned up on our door step as an escapee farmdog who wouldn’t even come inside and slept on our doorstep!

Danny is our Aussie Shepherd X who shares my passion for bright colours and gorgeous (if not slightly over the top) furniture.  He loves our turquoise sofa just as much as I do!
Agata (Hamilton, On)

Lily thinks she is the Queen of England and just loves to sit on her Ercol Evergreen throne where she can survey her kingdom. It’s a hard life!
– Cat and Matt (London, England)

This is our Spoodle Maggie chilling out on our Ikea floral chair and leather lounge. She really doesn’t have that much to be sad about (it’s all for the camera).
– D&J

Here’s my year-old kitty Yoni on ‘his’ sofa – you can see ‘his’ tree in the background, and his attempts to destroy the sofa (a hand-me-down from my parents) on the left. I made the cushions myself and the wool cloud rug (which he loves) is by Donna Wilson. Also a bonus photo of when he was smaller and used to hang out on the fireplace mantel.
Katie

We have four cats and each one has its favorite place in the house, like Clarita “on the safe highlands” and Biancchino in the drawer. But sometimes some of them get together for a nap in our vintage armchair.
– Maristela (Brazil)

First photo is Bodhi, on one of two Ikea sofa’s in the living room. He sleeps like this often. The other photo is Oliver the cat and Bodhi’s sister, Brinkley, later in the day on the same sofa. I, of course, was on the other sofa, so they had to share. You’ve featured Brinkley before, sprawled out on the coffee table.
– Beverly (Houston TX)

This is Gus, our 3 year old Portuguese Water Dog, loves to lay on our bed.  He feels like a king when I let him on the bed. I only do this when my husband is out of town! He is the best pet ever -so sweet and lovable.
– Melanie

This is Sullivan and his chair. Almost 3 and shares his birthday with Brittany Spears!
– Andy (NYC)

I bought a school desk to replace my London Tier phone book table. It just didn’t “tie the room together” This is Yap-Yap, my Maine Coon/Siamese mix in her new napping place. So much for a phone sitting there.
– Gina (Portland, OR)

‘Moss’ chilling out on the bean bag
– Hilary (Brisbane, Australia)

Puck on chair.
– Jackson

vivi is my 15-year-old persian. needless to say that she sleeps 24h a day.
– Christiana (Brasilia, Brazil)

Austin, our blond rescue Lab mix, really likes to nap on our soft furniture.  I find tell-tale “Austin hair” on the leather couch, sitting on which is a big no-no, and rumpled blankets on the guest bed, pictured.
Amos is the baby, a 9-month old chocolate Lab mix. He finds all sorts or places to sit so he can watch the birdies outside, like my reading nook chair.

Joanna (Kansas City, Missouri)

I have two photos to share with you. The first is my cat, June, on my vintage pink velvet sofa, and the second is my dog, Delilah, who prefers to lounge on the more modern sectional.
Melanie (St. Petersburg, Florida)

This is Bronte. Life is pretty exhausting for her… she alternates between the couch and the bed. I like this shot because it still reminds me of that moment. A Sunday afternoon, raining outside and I was sitting at my table, working while Bronte slept.
Alice

Later on in the afternoon, I stepped into my bedroom in need of a catnap as I’m fighting off a bad cold right now. I found our cat, Ziggy, laying there like the Queen of Sheba. Despite her haughty expression, she doesn’t have a problem sharing.
– Vivian (Cambridge, Ontario)

This is our Oriental cat, Polly, snoozing in the sun on the sideboard.
– Bec

Here is a picture of our youngest cat, Muffin. She is sitting in the middle of my bed, in front of my favourite leafy cushions. 🙂
– Sarah (Australia)

Meet Atlas the Bullmastiff, 125 pounds of pure laziness and love. Getting him off this couch is harder than getting my two sons to clean their bathroom!
– Marisa (Placitas, New Mexico)

Dexter, my regal Great Dane, considers the couch his throne!
Sabra (San Diego)

This is my foster cat, Trixie, a truly lovely pet, whom I hope found a loving family when she got back to the DSPCA (Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The plaid is from Ikea and the Indian cushion cover comes from the Camden Market in London, bought 14 years ago but still showing vibrant colours.
– Hélianthe (Dublin, Ireland)

This is my Maine Coon mix Fritz who apparently loves my vintage 1950’s refinished dresser as much as I do. I can’t keep him out of it long enough to load it up! The before picture is in the bottom right corner.
– Jenn (Sarasota, Florida)

Hi, this is my British Shorthair Mason sitting on my a chair of mine. It’s tough to get his hairs off the furniture, but he’s so stylish up there that I don’t mind it. His coat goes well with my grayscale Lego Beatles, and his eyes match the golden pillow and lampshade.
– Benjamen (Seattle)….more pics of his place on Apartment Therapy and his blog

I’d like to contribute a couple of photos of our Norwegian forest cat Kharma. Our Spanish leather dining chairs are perfectly curved to qualify as a favourite spot (contrary to most cats, Kharma is not too fond of soft furnishings…). If our outdoors roof staircase can count as ‘furniture’, that’s another favourite…
– Rebecka (Stockholm, Sweden)…check out photos of her AMAAAAAZING home on her blog)

Here is a picture of Moses my rescue from Katrina on his plush dog bed which is hidden under a TJ Maxx treasure I found!
– Michelle (Virginia Beach, VA)

Our boys and girl enjoy their lounging time on a resurrected sleeper sofa… I made the linen slipcover to ease clean up of puppy prints and any body fluids which might escape.
Left to right: Mustachie (moose stash ee), Chachi and Telulah Bell. The dogs are sweet Havanese.

– Alice and Erin (Chelsea, Michigan)

The first picture is of our dog Ziggy on the couch. We think she is a Pit-Bull/Boston Terrier mix (we rescued her when she was about 6 months old, so we don’t know for sure). She is almost 3 now. The couch was a lucky craigslist find, and the pillows are from Anthropologie, Target and Urban Outfitters. The second picture is of Ziggy and one of our cats, Maynard on our king-sized bed. The duvet is from Target and the lamp is from Ikea. Maynard was also a rescue and has a lot of personality.
– Amy and Jake (Tampa, Fl)

Here is our dog Oscar on our favorite vintage chair, he loves to pose for the camera, and yes that is him in the picture up on the wall.
– Erin (Philadelphia, PA)

Attached is a picture of my dachshund, Arnie, lounging on her favorite ottoman.
– Ashley (Tampa, Florida)

This is Buckley. I got a new little white cupboard at a garage sale and he stuck to it like glue all night. And I’m sending you a couple pictures of him with other garage sale finds, just so you can see him better.
– Phyllis

And because I didn’t get as many entries as I usually do for today’s post, I thought I’d sneak in one of some of my herd. This photo was taken a while back – it’s Felix and Lucky (the 2 fatties) on my Ikea baby changetable hack that is STILL most of my 7 cats’ favourite place to have a snooze.
