Sam Sacks Design

Posted on Tue, 5 Nov 2024 by KiM

Interior design in Canada is often questionable, in my humble opinion. Every once in a while a designer comes along that seems to truly have skills and is able to create magazine worthy spaces. Toronto based Sam Sacks is one of them. She’s so good I almost had to split this into two posts but managed to edit the photos down to share my favourites. Some photos: Lauren Miller.

A 15th century manor house in Luçay-le-Mâle

Posted on Sun, 3 Nov 2024 by KiM

15th century manor, family property located in a calm and luxuriant environment of approximately 1,580m2 on 10 hectares. Main house composed of an entrance, kitchen, living room and lounge with fireplace, a small lounge with fireplace, 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. A converted Dovecote with 1 bedroom with its bathroom. Reception room with pantry/kitchen, storage rooms, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. A studio with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom, living room with kitchenette. House converted into a Gîte with kitchen, living room with fireplace and 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and veranda giving the garden a nice mix of old and modern. Vaulted chapel dating from the 14th century enclosed in the main building and a magnificent landscaped garden with century-old trees. A pond and a swimming pool facing the forest. Shed of 20mx16m. Wine cellar.
The exterior of this home had me sold, and then the original stone, beams, fireplaces and tile floors seal the deal. I WISH! For sale via Kretz for €1,220,000.

Claire Brody

Rooted in her love and appreciation for a rich, soulful space, Claire Brody enjoys sourcing an interesting mix of vintage, heirloom, and antique objects for both her personal projects and clients’ homes. Claire’s inventory includes an eclectic mix of origins and ages ranging from the 18th century to the mid 20th century and especially loves a primitive or hand crafted piece. Layering unexpected colors, textures and lines is her secret to achieving one-of-a-kind spaces that feel authentic and evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth.
Really love the vintage vibes of these spaces, and that are paint approach of using colour on all the trim vs painting out the walls. I’ll always be a fan of this, and it’s soooo good if you have a bit of a fear of colour. Photos: Jenna McElroy & James H. Ruiz.

Black Cap Farm

This gorgeous home on 130 acres is located in Millbrook, in the Hudson Valley. Designed by Cicognani Kalla Architect it is country living at its finest. The great room has two 18th century stone fireplaces, limestone tile floors, and custom French doors. The kitchen opens right up onto fabulous gardens and a stone terrace. It has a heated greenhouse, wine cellar, chicken coop, and outbuildings include caretaker’s home and office. I also found that in December of last year it was for sale for $13.1M. What a dream!

A playful colour palette in a Paris apartment

Posted on Tue, 22 Oct 2024 by KiM

The new owner of the place and his companion had clearly expressed their preferences for a style full of poetry and extravagance and a touch of nostalgia with references to the past. The tone was set for an apartment that had to be playful, warm, soft, daring, colorful, sophisticated and refined, a bit retro and nostalgic to live in withdrawn from the world as in a family home out of time, protective, far from the criteria of fashion and the trends of the present. Like a garment tailor-made for a personality with special characteristics, some choices were dictated by the owner’s Asian origins: design of the glass roof, Delft blue plates, enhancement of the collection of works of art, furniture and objects of Korean origin of exceptional quality. Wallpapers in bedrooms reactivate our childhood memories. This apartment translates the aspirations we had to invent an imaginary and poetic world by favoring fantasy, delicacy, and lightness.
I am always in awe of designer Marianne Evennou‘s work and this one is no exception. How she delineates spaces using colour, and uses colours one might never think to attempt in the same space is so impressive. The kitchen in this apartment may be tiny but it is GORGEOUS. Photos: Grégory Timsit.
