Caleb Woodard Furniture

Posted on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 by midcenturyjo

I love beautiful handcrafted timber pieces. The life of the tree is displayed lovingly before your eyes and the silky touch of such a piece is a joy. Caleb Woodard is an artisan woodworker whose organic creations are celebrations of a dying craft and a dwindling resource. Mass produced is a necessity but handcrafted is an artwork to be cherished. Caleb’s fiance and partner in developing this enterprise, Melanie told me that Caleb specializes in an organic woodworking aesthetic with live edges and midcentury touches – he’s inspired by artists from George Nakashima to Vladimir Kagan. Take the time to visit his website and explore his philosophy. Inspiring.

And now a word from our new sponsor

I could use a green tea right about now (it was a very VERY long day), and considering the state of my kitchen, I could also REALLY use some cabinets from Greentea Design. It’s a Toronto based Asian furniture retailer with a large selection of contemporary and antique pieces and a strong commitment to the environment. They’ve been around for over ten years, and judging by the products featured on their website, I’d say they’ll be around for many more. Not only do they carry kitchen cabinetry, but living room, dining room and bedroom furniture as well. Gorgeous!!! (Thanks Michael!)

Your favourite white paint

Posted on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 by KiM

This post is a request for help. I think I want to paint the main floor of my new house all white (and one day hopefully the icky hardwood floors). Colours I will save for the bedrooms and bathrooms. But the living room, kitchen and office I think I’d like to keep white (and maybe the stairwell and upstairs hallway). My problem is I have never found a white I love. In my last house I used Ultra Pure White or whatever the base is for Behr paints. That was a tad too bright. Then I repainted my living room in Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White, and I thought that was a bit too off-white. So if anyone out there has a white paint they swear by, please leave the name and brand in the comments. And if there’s anyone who wants to come by and help paint…..

…. more favourite rooms, including my favourite outdoor room. I’m going for sheer number not categories, see if I can win this game of favourite room poker with Kim. Lovely weather in Australia Kim for soaking in that tub staring at that view. (Actually that’s not true right now. There is a cyclone brewing off the coast.)

… but then Kim raises the stakes by doing a post on her favourite living rooms and promises a lay down Misère by featuring rooms by category. (See I should be playing card games and drinking wine not posting.) So here I go!! More favourite rooms.
