The Imaginarium

Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015 by midcenturyjo

I remember the first time I entered stylist Sibella Court’s bijou shop of wonders The Society inc. in Paddington, Sydney. I was overwhelmed by her wonderful wares. I wanted to hide under a table and only crawl out again at closing time and pretend the Paddington terrace house was all mine to explore. Now my fantasies can come true. Sibella has opened a new warehouse in St Peters and the terrace house is available to rent on airbnb.  “An imaginarium… a quiet oasis offering the curious traveller a treasure trove of curiosities, artisan objects & furniture, a vast reference library…” See. Dreams do come true.

Monday eye candy

Posted on Mon, 26 Jan 2015 by KiM

I may be short on pet submissions this week (come on folks – send me pets on furniture photos! kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net), but I have something to make up for the lack of a pet post. Some stunning interior eye candy photographed by British duo Tim Brotherton and Katie Lock. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to hop into the photo above, light a fire and flop on the sofa for the remainder of the morning.

Clouds of white books

An oasis of calm after the ceaseless clamour of the day. Respite. Retreat. Classical meets modern. Neutral sophistication. Elegant and urbane with a dash of controversy. White painted books? In this San Francisco Decorator Showcase library interior designer Geoffrey De Sousa explores the role of books and the room that contains them in a world of tablets and the Cloud.

The power of (more than) one

Even the simple dirt sieve can become a work of art when it is displayed en masse. One is good. More is better 😉 Watermill House by Huniford.

Double dose of Inside Out

A second look inside the pages of the latest issue of Inside Out. Too cool! Lee Tran again…

And then there’s the late 19th-century rabbiter’s cottage that has been rescued from its state as an office and turned into a gorgeous vintage-industrial home by fashion designer Claire Tregoning and cinematographer Tim Tregoning. They renovated it in “little blocks” over nearly three years and it probably didn’t hurt that a lot of the features in the home were designed by Claire’s brother-in-law, Rory Unite, who works as a furniture designer and artist. That amazing bed was created by Rory out of recycled timber and given a rustic charm with a few paintbrush coats of white. Styling by Nicole Valentine Don and photography by Fiona Galbraith.

Don’t forget Aussie readers can pick up their copy of the October Inside Out on Thursday. Don’t fret if you aren’t in Australia because you can read along on  ZinioGoogle Play and the Apple Newsstand.
