An apartment in Madrid

Posted on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 by KiM

Jo isn’t the only one having technical difficulties. My laptop, which I love as much as my many cats, is on the fritz with a toasted hard drive. I feel LOST without it. Luckily I have a very computer-savvy husband whom everyone and their dog goes to when things go wrong with anything computer related. He was thankfully able to copy my important files off but I am without some software I use on a daily basis, and it is very frustrating. I hope to get it back up and running soon so I won’t be such a grump. In the meantime I found some photos I had stashed away of a gorgeous apartment in Madrid from the lovely Nuevo Estilo. (According to google translator I think it’s a rental and the building was from the 50s-60s designed by architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto).

Firmdale Hotels

Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2010 by KiM

To end of the week I thought I’d show some photos of one of the best designed hotels I’ve ever seen. The Firmdale hotels includes 6 London locations and a new one that opened in SoHo in October. “Firmdale Hotels’ owners, Tim and Kit Kemp believe that ‘hotels should be living things, not stuffy institutions’. Kit Kemp has designed all of the interiors in a fresh contemporary English style. Her mixture of colour and texture, modern and antique together with an impressive art collection, has combined to create a unique look and style.” The colours and patterns are gorgeous and these rooms look SO comfortable I want to crawl through my monitor and into one of the beds.

My dream home

Posted on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 by KiM

Patrick Flynn is a designer/project manager at envelopeA+D, an architecture and design firm based in Oakland, California and he emailed us thinking we’d be interested in a project the firm recently completed (it was featured in the NY Times yesterday). Interested??? I almost passed out when I saw the photos. This home is so unbelieveably cool and funky and creative and plucked right out of my dreams. I am completely smitten with it. The Victorian duplex is located in San Francisco, and is owned by Claire Bigbie (an interior designer who now designs for the firm) and her skateboarder boyfriend Jay Shapiro. It was renovated to house a creative studio for Claire on the main floor and the living quarters upstairs. I adore absolutely everything about this home, including the incredible blue-black exterior (used to downplay the Victorian embellishments). Thanks so much Patrick for sharing this with us! Every photo below is going in my inspiration folder, and I imagine in many of our readers’ folders too.
