I love the warm, relaxed and uplifting feels this weekend home in Southampton exudes. Without being tongue in cheek beachy, the decor by designer Meg Braff was kept light with tropical pastels and such beautiful patterns throughout.

Chicago based interior designer Alessandra Branca continues to work her design magic year after year and since it’s been a while since we shared some of her work I thought I’d feature a roundup of some of my favourites we haven’t shared before. Eye candy for your viewing pleasure.

This property originally formed part of a 16^thC coaching inn. It is a flat fronted stone village house with cross mullion windows on the edge of the Cotswolds. The sole purpose of this gloriously neat and perfectly proportioned house was to stand as a hunting box for my clients. We removed a dividing wall downstairs opening up an airy space for socializing yet retaining it’s cosy appeal for intimate fireside evenings. Reclaimed timber floors and show stopping Raku fired floor tiles give charm in bucket loads to the kitchen and breakfast room. We purchased some perfectly figured reclaimed elm from which we crafted the kitchen and found some papier mache refracted glass cinema lights that illuminate the kitchen work surfaces. Carefully sourced antiques and client art work made this property a delight to work on.

I love the style of New York based design firm Hadley Wiggins. It’s a mix of historic/traditional with touches of modernity. It is about removing the stuffiness and adding some playfulness. Comfort and longevity. Homey feels.

Set upon a hilltop in the French Pyrenees, Château de Gudanes is one of the most magical homes I have ever seen. And one of my favourite Instagram accounts to follow, to watch the progress of this huge restoration project and dream…

Once upon a time a thirteenth century fortress, a fifteenth century castle, and then an eighteenth century palatial château, Château de Gudanes was then left abandoned and in ruins… Until in 2013, she was discovered by a West Australian family, the Waters, who have taken on the responsibility to awaken this sleeping beauty after years of neglect – at the time they purchased the building only three of its ninety-four rooms still had floors and ceilings. Château de Gudanes still stands proudly in the south of France in the small village of Chateau-Verdun.
