Contemporary and tactile in Brisbane

Posted on Fri, 5 Jul 2019 by midcenturyjo

It’s an interesting mix, moody master bedroom and a tactile, almost organic bathroom in the lightest shade of grey. Inspired by luxurious Greek villas think sinuous shapes offset by angular joinery,  light bouncing off walls, floating drapes, a calm oasis in a hot, hot city. Teneriffe Apartment, Brisbane by Alexandra Ponting of AP Design House.

A black and white beach side getaway

Posted on Fri, 21 Jun 2019 by midcenturyjo

Two days ago I had us all running away to the spa region of Victoria. We were renting houses and indulging (or should that be overindulging) in the local delights. Today nothing much has changed except the location. We’re off to the coastal wonderland that is Byron Bay in northern New South Wales and I’m not sure about you but I’m staying at one of the Byron Beach Abodes. The Chapel in fact. 100-year old exposed bricks, timber beams, concrete floors and raw steel staircase. A mix of old and new furnishings, vaulted ceiling and dramatic draped curtains, hand-woven carpets and fine linens. Tempting enough?

I love the relaxed, somewhat Scandinavian approach to design of New Jersey based Birgitte Pearce. These spaces make me want to sink in to them and never leave.

A minimalist adobe house

Posted on Mon, 17 Jun 2019 by midcenturyjo

“An indoor-outdoor space filled with art and soft textures to create a sanctuary closely linked to the earth.” That’s what Californian interior designer Corinne Mathern wanted to create with this renovation of a 3 bedroom adobe villa in Mission Cannon, Santa Barbara. An oasis of calm (with a touch of brutalism), monochromatic and minimalist, earthy and sophisticated.
