London loft love

Posted on Sun, 30 Aug 2015 by KiM

What a stunning loft. This 1200 sq ft space in London is a dream with massive windows along one entire side, concrete ceilings, white painted floorboards, and an eclectic touch with stained glass doors and windows and patterned tile. I would maybe redo the kitchen and add some actual cabinetry to make it more functional. Other than that the decor is really fun and random with an fairly simple colour pallet. LOVE this. How to fake a bay window

This is a fantastic idea – build some bookcases on either side of a window and you end up with storage, a window seat and throw in some mirrors and trim and you have the cutest little reading nook in a ‘bay window’. Via Granit.

Mid century modern

Let’s end the week with a contemporary take on the classic mid century bachelor pad that hangs from the hillsides of California. This Trousdale Estates, Beverley Hills home is by Studio William Heffner but screw up your eyes, stare at the screen, and let your mind wander to episodes of Mad Men. The setting is spectacular and the house a mid century modern marvel.

Form and function

Anyone else notice my growing fascination with staircases? Particularly ones that sweep and turn, ones with sinuous shape. A new favourite appears simple at first but look up. Yes you need the function but enjoy the form. By b.e architecture.

And the rest of the house is pretty special too.

“Located in the Edgemoor neighborhood in Bethesda, Maryland, this new home draws influence from the Bauhaus movement. Clean crisp spaces with oversized steel doors and windows pull the outside in to create spaces filled with light and warmth.”

A modern classic by Anne Decker Architects.
