Merrick’s Guest House

Posted on Mon, 25 Jun 2018 by midcenturyjo

This rustic, timber clad out-house (originally designed by Eckersley Garden Architecture) has undergone a clever transformation into sophisticated guest accommodation on a rural property in Victoria’s Mornington peninsula. A beautiful site, a beautiful vine clad building and now a modern, light filled getaway redesigned by Melbourne-based Studio Esteta.

Introducing my dream home!

Posted on Thu, 14 Jun 2018 by KiM

I’m almost at a loss for words. This home in Wentworth-Nord, Québec designed by Montréal architect Alain Carle is so incredibly beautiful from the outside in. Most of the wood and stone throughout the house are reclaimed and are what really make this home special. Alongside the concrete floors, plaster walls and crittall windows, it is a winning combination. Bonus points for the dark stained wood adding in some moody drama. This is everything I love. Ranch

From the heady heights of a mid century classic to a humble ranch abode, is there anything Los Angeles based interior design firm Hallworth can’t put its hand to? Apparently not. I’m packing my bags to move in.

The Salkin House

This Los Angeles mid century house by John Lautner had, in the words of Bestor Architecture, “slipped off the radar” and fallen into disrepair. Their sensitive renovation addressed structural issues, replaced glass, stripped the interior down to the original red concrete floor, added new cabinetry, addressed the leaking roof and reinstated the original carport. A wonderful new life guaranteed for this 1948 gem.

Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 28 Apr 2018 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote today and what is on my real estate radar is this light, bright, family home. The modern renovation and extension takes what is a simple wooden cottage and transforms it into a four bedroom, open plan home with seamless indoor-outdoor living. It’s up for auction with a guide price of $1,800,000 – $1,980,000 AUD. (And yes Australian house prices are still crazy.) Link here while it lasts.
