This villa for sale in Tarragona, Spain is INCREDIBLE for the price of €595,000. It has not one but TWO libraries with floor to ceiling bookcases, the tile floors are gorgeous, there’s 10 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and a courtyard space that is perfectly low maintenance but enough space to play with. This is Ben and Charlie’s own house, tucked away on an estuary in the far west coast of Scotland. Ben and Charlie found the tiny pair of buildings – a Victorian two-roomed cottage and a much early stone bothy – in derelict and unloved condition – in 2018, after a long search for something untouched and unspoiled. The Victorian cottage had intact match boarding to the interiors, and we took the decision to keep this completely intact – re-wiring the two rooms with simple galvanised surface mounted conduit in order not to damage the historic interior.  The stone bothy was stripped back to rough stone walls. Both buildings have been furnished with a different atmosphere to suit their age and character. The bothy forms a simple, basic kitchen, and the cottage contains a tiny sitting room and bedroom. There is as yet no running water or heating, but in 2023 Ben and Charlie are building a third new bothy to the west of the two original houses to provide a little more creature comfort.
This is so beautiful I could cry. Ben Pentreath must feel privileged to be the proprietor of such a magical space.

Set on 102 acres of land amidst the Santa Ynez Mountains, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, La Tarantella by Grassini Family Vineyards was originally designed and built by Los Angeles architecture firm Choate Associates as a private residence.  The original homeowners’ passion for Spanish, French and Italian architecture lead them to integrate interior architectural elements such as columns, fireplace surrounds and lighting that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Grassini Family Vineyards, along with Corinne Mathern Studio transformed La Tarantella into an event and hospitality space in 2022. Corinne Mathern Studio pulled hues of the olive trees, vines and hills to the interior through a muted palette of neutrals, sage greens, dusty blues, chocolate browns, deep rusts, tans and creams for a sense of harmony. Corinne Mathern Studio designed the oak millwork throughout the entire property to complement the cedar and Douglas fir ceilings.
The architectural details of this home are a wonderful starting point and the vintage mixed with contemporary furnishings makes this home more fresh and “now”. And that pale terracotta plaster exterior is absolutely delightful.

The warm and inviting interiors of Kara Childress’ personal home reflect an essential interlacing of old and new, resulting in an inviting and functional atmosphere to suit her lifestyle. The Italian style structure is composed of architectural elements that stand the test of time and comfort the soul. Beautiful bones provide a backdrop of good character for an array of furnishings, lightings, and the designer’s personal collection of antiques. 
This details in Kara’s home have me swooning – everything from the tile, arches, windows, wood beams, fireplaces. The history, textures and “weight” of it all is breathtaking and is so timeless and will just get more and more beautiful as time goes on.

Minneapolis based design firm Studio Day are “preservation focused”. *mic drop*. And hats off to having that mentality in this day and age where soooo many people think you should slap paint on something and call it “modern” or “refinished”. In the case of this remodeled 1935 Tudor Revival home at some point the dark trim had been lightened and Studio Day designed to leave it light, which works to keep the home from being too dark. In the living room the lights had been plastered over but were uncovered and made functional again (that ceiling millwork is FAB!). The blue tile bathroom was maintained – sooo glad to see that because so many colourful bathrooms of that era are destroyed.
