Reader requests – backsplash and home office

Posted on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 by KiM

Reader request time! This one (actually 2) comes from Malou: “My husband and I are constantly inspired by your posts. We’re hoping you can help us with ideas for:1. kitchen backsplashes for an all kitchen with white cabinets and dark gray floors   2. home office with tables in the middle“. Simple enough. So here are some white kitchens, most with grey floors, that have some ideas for backsplashes. After the jump are some offices with tables/desks in the middle of the space.

Reader request – built-in home office

Posted on Thu, 7 Oct 2010 by KiM

It’s reader request time, and today’s post comes from Melissa: “I’ve stalked your blog for years, and now that my husband and I are in the throes of renovating a funky garage/apartment into our future house, I was hoping you might be able to help. The home is 1600 sq. ft, so every sq. ft is in contention. I am a writer/photographer and need to have a home office that, unfortunately, will be placed just off of our living area. I was hoping you might be able to point out some built in home offices or some unusual alternatives to computer/bookshelf storage?” I scoured my workspace photos and found some that are small/built-in/in or nearby living rooms. Hope this helps you Melissa and anyone else looking to carve out a home office out of a small area.

Studio style

Ever dreamed of having a fabulous studio to ply your creative trade? Wide open spaces, a white shell in which to create your colourful portfolio? Minimalist but fab furniture and the ultimate decor accessory, a cheeky pug called Buffy? If the answer is yes then you must have been dreaming of photographer and reader Brook Pifer’s studio. OMG I’m jealous. Cool space and über cool pup!

A boutique of unmentionables

Justyna Friedberg’s Morpho Studio is at it again. First we featured an advertising agency her firm (based in Poland) designed, now it’s an exclusive lingerie boutique, located in a historic, renovated tenement in Kraków’s Old Town. There are several intriguing features, like the use of an antique Singer sewing machine that was fitted with a top and serves as a coffee table and the creation of a counter that looks like three huge drawers put one on top of the other. It’s gorgeous – love the white scheme that really showcases the products, and the whitewashed fittings are beautiful and give a bit of a casual feel. Dream space

Welcome to the oh so chic showroom and offices of Julia Buckingham Edelmann of Buckingham ID in Chicago. When Julia sent over photos recently I was green with envy. Never mind working here I’d move in and call it home. I love the stark white industrial meets sophisticated urban living vibe. Please interior design gods grant me that chandelier, the sculptures, the lucite chairs, Julia’s office and the conference table and chairs. Congratulations on a fabulous space Julia!
