She describes herself as Los Angeles based Portrait and Interiors Photographer. I describe her as genius. Her work is crisp and simple yet packed with everything you need to know. Or should I say everything you need to covet especially if your thing is retro. Beautiful use of positive and negative space and colour as punctuation point. The folks at Polish architecture firm mode:lina sent over their latest completed project. It’s 140 sq m, and the clients are fans of Scandinavian style so they requested concrete and wood, with lots of white, and dark grey and yellow. They also wanted lots of storage while maximizing space so all doors are sliding, and the dog gets a spot to nap under the stairs. The clients also requested a fireplace and a TV that didn’t stand out, so dark walls help to hide these features. (Not sure why you would want to hide a fireplace). I have to mention how cool the concrete stairs with wooden treads look – seems to be an ongoing feature of a mode:lina property.

Colour is great! And what is better than colour? More colour. Don’t get me wrong. I love a taste of Scandi boho white mixed with timber floors and midcentury goodies so imagine great big swathes of saturated colour like a palette knife across a canvas or a cake. Yes! Colour is the icing on this cake! Fabulous family home by Bestor Architecture.

Dark, moody, masculine and down by the harbour. Not quite what you expect for boathouse living. Love the texture, the old wood, the play of white light against murky walls and the pops of yellow. Yes, in this case, I think pop is just the right word. A wonderful man cave by Sydney interior designer Karen Akers. Imagine sitting snug inside on a wild and windy rainy day.

Contemporary and custom combined with vintage and one off. Beautifully layered modern rooms with personality and wonderful detail. Calm and elegant, sophisticated and restrained but warm and inviting. Quite a feat to get just right and interior designer Charles Mellersh has the balance just right.
