Summer house

Posted on Mon, 31 Oct 2011 by midcenturyjo

Leaves rustle in a wind on the turn. Hot days end with just a hint of chill. Sweat cools bringing goosebumps. Fruit has fallen. Flowers are overblown and nod their heads in the knowledge that summer is done, that colder days are coming. Just enough time to gather together a few more memories to keep the old summer house company in the dark of winter. Soon it will be closed. Soon it will sleep. We turn our backs and retreat to the main house. Down at the end of the garden path will be a promise of things to come, of the cycle of life, of next year. Memories to keep us company in the dark of winter.

Perhaps I should have written this a month or two ago. Perhaps winter has already darkened your windows. Just a summer house memory to keep you warm. For sale here.

Stalking on a sunny Saturday …

… and what better house than one with  a generous dose of sunshine yellow. So bright and fresh, light and white, yellow and… green. How fab is that green bedroom? Hope your weekend is as fun as this cute sandstone terrace. Ah Darlinghurst, Sydney I love you. Link here while it lasts.

Hello yellow

Open plan contemporary living in an Australian bush setting. Pushing out from the ridge the glass and metal box is anchored by a big, bright dose of sunny yellow, a kitchen that shines like a beacon through the eucalyptus. It’s the ultimate bush shed by Sydney based, international architectural studio Lippmann Partnership. If a bush retreat is not your idea of architectural nirvana then perhaps the beach shack after the jump is more your modern retreat ideal.

Cobbold Du Pont – part 2

Posted on Tue, 28 Sep 2010 by KiM

As I promised on Friday, here is another look at beautifully designed spaces created by the talented Rebecca Du Pont De Bie and Caroline Cobbold of London’s Cobbold Du Pont Interiors. This time it’s a little less rustic and a little more Parisian glam, in a private residence in London that they completed last year. Gorgeous!!

Reader’s home

Reader Laurel Walter lives in southern Oregon and this is her fabulous home. These shots were taken by Matthew Millman (my earlier post on Matthew here) for a magazine feature. Laurel says her home is a trifecta project involving herself and Jennifer Bright, her partner in their interiors styling business, Twist, and Dewayne Lumpkin, owner of Home Economics. Unfortunately the magazine folded and Lauren’s home remained unpublished but I am so jealous because Laurel has these amazing photos! I spy so much that I love. I’m ticking off the industrial items and found objects that I want for my place but most of all I’d kill for a wonderful outdoor room like Laurel’s.
