A big thanks to François for tipping us off to the website of Herbst Architects, based in Auckland, New Zealand. Their designs are works of art, and I’m in awe of how they merge the indoors with the outdoors. And as I mentioned last week, I’m a big fan of wood walls…such a simple and graphic way to bring nature indoors. (Also loving the stone/mesh walls – Jo says they’re called gabions – seen in the 3rd photo and then again after the jump).
Eric Piasecki you cruel photographer. Taking gorgeous pictures of equally gorgeous open shelves. Shame on you teasing a woman of my age!
White, bright and not a Scandinavian in sight. Interior designer Magdalena Keck hails from New York but her work turns its back on the Big Apple glam and looks inwards to hearth and home. It’s clean lined, simple but well considered. Her colour palette is restrained but all the better to provide respite from the bustle and clash of everyday New York life like this Greenwich Village pied à terre, a wonderful retreat.
If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)
This is my 3 years old Yorkshire terrier Frodo siting at our bedroom’s Luis inspired chair and on our bed. I am an artist, so you can see one of my blue sky series paintings hangs on bedroom’s wall.

Hi there, here’s a photo of our Tonkinese cats asleep together on their favourite chair.

I have attached a few pictures….The first one is of Hank, our dog, laying on the couch. Our cat Leroy is behind him. Hank is ten and has 3 legs. He’s the sweetest dog on the planet. The second one is Annabel. She is a dog that comes over for some dogsitting. She likes this chair cause it’s right next to the bed. The last one is of Leroy in the bathroom sink. I know it’s a close up, but our bathroom is teeny! He likes to sleep in the sink on occasion.

This is my buddy Fang on my favorite reading chair, in Ogden, UT. He looks like he’s about to call an important meeting to order.

Here’s a shot of Whippet Shanti reclining on Dennis Battler’s loveseat in Toronto, an outtake from a mini house tour.

Here are our two sacked out dogs, Daniel Louis and Kayla Rae Sunshine, leaving no room for the people that own this couch. They do this quite often. We found the couch with terrific Mid-century bones at a local thrift store and had it re-cushioned and upholstered.

Excuse the blurry camera phone photos; Farlee the 1-year-old Blue Heeler and Duke the 5-year-old Corgi won’t allow me to venture into the next room to grab the real camera… they follow my husband & I everywhere! Here they are on the genuine leather “dog bead” that we bought for our first wedding anniversary last year. They have broken in the leather very well & I know our comfy couch will hold up great once our first 2-legged offspring arrives in February!

Our Vizlas William shared his chair with his company. We dog sat Will’s Mom, Miska and his Sister, Diva last week. A family reunion on furniture.

my pup Alice…on “her” Barcelona chair 🙂

While commuting to work this morning I received this photo of our 2 year old Chessie, Gus… and I ABSOLUTELY agree with his attitude about Mondays!! (of course taking full advantage of a recently made bed as well)

Wonderful photography by Lesley Unruh. Real and messy and everyday beautiful.
