Stalking today in the little country town of Woodend, Victoria. A sweet cottage overflowing with period features. So cute you want to pinch its cheeks and tell it how pretty it is. Pressed metal, tongue and groove walls, honey coloured pine floors marry with a relaxed and shabby modern country look. Perfect for a weekender away from the madding crowd of Melbourne and a short drive to the mountains or perhaps a picnic at Hanging Rock. Rose Cottage (built in 1905) has just one more feature you’ll need for when I come to visit. A separate studio. I promise I won’t bother you except at meal times. Link here while it lasts.

Nothing… except I would want to re-zhush the bedrooms if they were mine and Tricia’s Rough Linen would be perfect.

A muted and almost monotone palette with pops of fluoro or grounded with black. Rustic and decayed juxtaposed with shiny and new. Organic with manmade minimalism. Over exposed and high contrast. It’s a look we have come to associate with Scandinavian photographers and Danish photographic studio Yellows is a pin up for achieving the look. Editorial work for RUM magazine and commercial work for Light Years, Fredericia Furniture, Louis Poulsen and Bo Concept just to name a few. Gorgeous, edgy photos full of inspiration.

I spent the day yesterday shopping with my family in Montreal for some fall clothes (perfect timing as it’s been HOT for 3 months and I woke up this morning to a drop by about 20 degrees C), so I didn’t have much time to get something ready for today, and I’ve got a busy day too shooting my new purchases for themourningcloak.com and another personal house tour from the Glebe House Tour which is coming up next weekend. While I wait for my husband to finish watching Formula 1 so he can shave my head (only the bottom half 🙂 ) and we can go get some breakfast, I managed to find some gorgeous photos courtesy of British lifestyle magazine Heart Home.

It’ll be really great if u guys from the Design Crew can help me with my woes! We are giving the house a make over but don’t know what to do with it/don’t know how or where to start. The walls are white and we don’t intend to change the color. But as you can see, the curtains are ugly and the furniture looks so awkward!  We are thinking along the lines of alot of white with white/black furniture – we would like to keep it modern yet a little quirky/fun. We don’t mind paintings on the wall but we have no idea what colors or what kind of paintings will go well! The floor was tiled with marble and likewise we don’t intend to change it because that will cause a lot of hassle! Thank You so much for reading thus far… Have a blessed week ahead!

A reader named Monica recently scored 3 Eames LCM chairs at an estate sale (lucky girl!). Here’s her dilemma: I’d like to use them as dining chairs, but I know they’re more lounge-type chairs (hence the L in the name). They’re not super low, but you end up leaning back more than in a regular dining chair. I see the Eames shell chairs in dining rooms all the time, but never these. Do you have any examples of dining rooms that use these? I’m thinking about pairing them with a wood table and a built-in- or freestanding-bench along the other side. They actually come in a 16″ lounge version which is what Monica has, and an 18″ dining chair version. She’s trying to convince her husband they will work as dining chairs because she has enough occasional chairs (although I personally think there’s no such thing as too many chairs!). I went through my photo stash and found photos of it as a dining chair, and I threw in some of the LCW version too at the end. I love these as dining chairs – they’re a great break from the normal Eames molded plastic chairs everyone seems to use.
