A little peek in the home of a florist

Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014 by KiM

Thierry Boutemy is a burly man with full on beard/moustache who happens to be a florist (who worked on Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette!) and lives in a glorious house on an island in the city of Brussels. His home is filled with French and Scandi antiques, a lovely art collection and of course, flowers. Check out the whole story on Coffeeklatch.

Milk and Honey Home

It has been ages since Jo featured the home of designer Julie Holloway of Milk & Honey Home, so when I happened across the website of her and Anita Darnell’s new interior design firm I wanted to share some of their work. It is classic yet fresh and bright with lots of white, and just seems to hit all the right buttons. And WOW, these kitchens! SMEG!!

Red ghost

Like a ghostly shadow echoing the surrounding homes the Kew House by Piercy & Company is formed by two volumes containing four bedrooms and living areas set back from the street behind the retained 19th century stable wall. The weathering steel shell, solid and sturdy yet at the same time hinting at decay and change, references the autumnal hues of nearby Kew Garden. A thoroughly modern family home (love the children’s spaces up in the attic) with echoes and ripples of the past.

How we live

Posted on Thu, 4 Dec 2014 by KiM

It is a nice change of scenery to see spaces with PEOPLE in them. And pets of course. Because gawd forbid someone actually LIVE in all these perfectly styled spaces like we so often feature. HOW WE LIVE. A simple yet brilliant concept. Dogs hovering around the dining table hoping food will appear. A kid jumping on a bed or sofa. A woman rifling through a stack of decor mags…. Photos by one of my favourite photographers Melanie Acevedo.

Gabriel Fontes de Faria, a designer @ Homepolish (and an IG buddy of mine – him, me) sent us over a link to a feature on Freshome of the Chicago home he shares with his hubby Grant. It is totally gorgeous, but I laugh when he agreed with me that a designer or a design lover like myself are always dealing with our own homes as a work in progress. The decorating never ends! As soon as I finish I need to go back and start again. Anyway, his home is filled with my favourites – Bertoia chairs, a whole whack of different Eames chairs, a Saarinen tulip table and some vintage randomness to keep you intrigued. I love it Gabriel!
