Odessa odyssey

Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015 by midcenturyjo

Let’s take a little trip. To Ukraine, a country with a vibrant design scene that we seem to have overlooked. How remiss of us. To make amends I present this amazing 180 sqm apartment in the city of Odessa by Kiev-based architectural firm 2B.GROUP. One bedroom with a walk-in-wardrobe to die for and a bathroom I’d be “lucky” to own. Love the panelling on the bedroom wall which, if you look carefully, is electrical wiring. Love the bookcase wall, the concrete, the exposed brick, the change in levels and materials to define rooms, the luxury in this small space living.

Book storage round-up

Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015 by KiM

There are MANY projects I need to tackle in my house. One of them is turning the room on the third floor into a library. Currently all of my books and magazines are in piles on the floor in that room (along with all of our excess furniture) and it is driving me crazy that I don’t have them organized and cannot access them easily. Unfortunately this project is not at the top of the to-do list, so in the meantime I thought I would do a round-up of rooms with bookcases, shelving…some really amazing ways books have been stored and put on display, so I can dream of the day when I have my library all set.

Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015 by KiM

If you would like to participate in the Monday’s pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[@]desiretoinspire[.]net. Thanks!

Asena is my 8 years cat love to sleep at this recliner sofa most of the time to monitor any birds movement at window ledge.
– Nadine (Dubai, UAE)

I am long-term follower and thought of sending some pictures of my pets on furniture.
– Elisabeth (Estonia)

Cirilo sun-bathing‏
– Laura

This is Squish pretending to be a knick knack on my mid-century tambour secretary. Looks nice there, right?
Steph (Minneapolis, MN)

And some from me. Featuring one of the ferals, Frankie (he’s doing so well these days – always hangs out in the vicinity of us, loves cuddling in bed while we’re trying to sleep at 4 am…) and my little princess Mimin.
I think Frankie and Bernie are now adoptable. They will need to go to a special home that is quiet (hopefully they go together, or at least with someone who has other cats as these guys LOVE cat company) with someone who understands what they’ve been through. And what I have been through. Email me if interested.

Stalking 2

Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015 by midcenturyjo

If I can’t have the last house in Sydney maybe I’ll take this little house in South Yarra, Melbourne. Still has the old on the outside, new on the inside thing going on with the cutest kid’s room. No wonder I’m stalking it. It’s the home of an architect and an interior designer. Link here while it lasts. (And if you’d like to see what it looked like before they wove their magic here is a link to the property when it was last for sale.)

Stalking 1

I’m stalking in my favourite Sydney suburb Redfern. Once a tough and gritty inner city working class area (some would argue slum) it is now the home of soaring real estate prices as its historic houses are restored and the Sydney price bubble just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The house we are stalking ticks all my boxes. Georgian in style, modern in interiors, on the border of my next favourite Sydney suburb Surry Hills. There is even a separate basement flat in case you want to come visit. We could go see my favourite football team the South Sydney Rabbitohs (Go the Bunnies!), explore the treasure at Seasonal Concepts or hit the Bourke St Bakery. Oh dear I’m excited about this one. Now if only I could afford the outrageous price tag. Link here while it lasts.
