Surry Hills House

Posted on Thu, 15 Dec 2016 by midcenturyjo

It’s as if this small inner-city Sydney terrace house is opening its arms to the outside. The kitchen diner extends into a petite but stylish courtyard garden while the bedroom has its own private deck. We Australians adore this inside out living but what I love most about this house is the natural light that floods into what would have originally been a dark and claustrophobic house. Colour

Just because you have white walls doesn’t mean you can’t be surrounded by colour. Even better, just because you rent and have white walls which you can’t paint, doesn’t mean you can’t do colour with style and flair. So much inspiration from this property styled by one of my favourite Melbourne homewares shops Fenton & Fenton.

An earthy colonial by Maurizio Pellizzoni

This home (dubbed the Antigua House) in Chelsea, London is all about neutrals, graphic art (a favourite it seems) and stripes – a winning combination. Antigua House is so-called because Maurizio Pellizzoni was asked to create interiors which echo its owner’s second home in the Caribbean. Evoking colonial charm, Maurizio opted for polished wood floors, natural linens, coir matting and a cream, taupe and chocolate colour palette.

More kitchen love

Yes ANOTHER kitchen I love and yes it’s from my favourite kitchen designers DeVOL. As their motto states – simple furniture, beautifully made. Love the artisan feel of their Sebastian Cox range. (Plus how about that touch of unexpected colour?)

A colourful Sydney Pied-à-terre

This pied-à-terre by Alexandra Kidd Design starts with a classic aesthetic and ramps up the impact with bold bursts of colour. Rich pinks, reds and oranges are splashed across the living room with vivid art works and fabrics but the energy is tempered by neutral walls and floors. Watch out for the bedroom though. Yellow and fuschia reign. An apartment where small makes a big impact.
