Easter reading guide part 1

Posted on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 by midcenturyjo

4 days! 4 days without your favourite blogs! What are you going to do? There is always the satisfaction gained from stuffing your face with easter eggs but Desire to Inspire is here to save you from the calorie overload. Yes it’s part one of our holiday reading guide. Over the long weekend we’ll post not one but 4 reading guides. Close to 80 blogs to gorge on. It’s the usual story. Some I’ve been reading for a while, others I’ve just found. Some are bigger than others (let’s call it a celebration of the little guys and the not so little guys who are well on their way). Some aren’t in English and some aren’t completely about interior design or decoration. All have lots of archives to plunder. Good luck and if you overdose on blogs I hear that chocolate bunnies are a proven antidote.

If all 4 of these guides aren’t enough to satiate your blog addiction this long weekend then check out our earlier guides here.

Wolveridge Architects

With a base in gritty urban Collingwood in Melbourne, Australia Wolveridge Architects design a broad range of project types but are especially well known for their work in coastal and rural areas. Core to their designs is exploring the relationship of the site and its environs and the role of ecologically sustainable designing using passive design techniques and sustainable building systems and recycled materials. Green never looked so urban.

You have been warned

Warning the following post is devoid of taste and should be taken in the light hearted manner in which it is offered.

We’ve had some wonderful posts this week. Kim’s white houses were just amazing. I thought I would counter all the good taste with these shock offerings from Decorating with Crochet, Anne Halliday, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, 1975. Yes it’s true I spent my valuable time scanning and editing these dreadful projects from this retro treasury of bad DIY. If you continue now and take some time to soak the details you have been warned!! (If anyone wants the instructions to make one of these, perhaps the crocheted director’s chair or the grandfather clock wall hanging let me know. Actually some of these aren’t that bad. Maybe I’ll get my crochet hook out…. just kidding.)

Jo Barnes encore

Kim featured stylist Jo Barnes’ work last year and Jo promised to keep us in the loop with her work. Exciting times for this talented stylist. She has a new website and new management. So now there are even more gorgeous photos to drool over. You have a fantastic job Jo (she’s style editor of The Sunday Time’s insideout magazine after heading up the style team at Britain’s top modern homes magazine Livingetc). No wonder with your stellar talent!

Thom Driver

I’m intrigued by vignettes around the house and I’m overly fond of natural and found objects lately. I guess that’s why I’m drawn to these beautiful images styled by Thom Driver. So delicate, so faded, so ethereal yet so natural. Autumn is on the way in the southern hemisphere and these are just the right images to get me in the mood. Love his work!
