Morning light

Posted on Fri, 18 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

My second apartment today is filled with morning light. So much so that it is definitely one of the design elements beautifully employed by designers Akin Atelier. With its spectacular position on Campbell Pde in Bondi and the expansive views over the harbour the monochromatic interiors celebrate what is outside the windows while providing an oasis of calm within. Neutral, sophisticated beach side. Perfect.

It’s all about the curve

Posted on Fri, 18 Mar 2022 by midcenturyjo

“A simple curving wall was employed to unify previously awkward and poorly defined spaces by wrapping and distinguishing the living, kitchen and dining rooms. The wall is present in every room, yet never visible in its entirety. This element contrasts the smaller, more intimate dining and kitchen nooks and provides a fluid backdrop to the main living areas, whilst concealing valuable storage space.”

Dave is a longtime reader of our blog and recently wrote us to share his absolutely incredible Montréal loft with us, that he had torn down to the studs and completely renovated in 2018. Unfortunately he now has to sell it but wanted to share it with us before he leaves. A bit of info about it: 15ft ceilings, exposed brisk, 2 gas fireplaces, 2+1 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living space of 1760 sq ft and a mezzanine of 900 sq ft, private roof top terrace 21′ x 34′. Dane not included 😉
WOW!!!! I am totally smitten. This loft has EVERYTHING. Thank you Dave for sharing your home with us!
A few before photos to show you the extent of the work that was done…

In the event you are in the market for the loft of your dreams, here is the listing.

Timeless and with an effortless style this apartment with sweeping views of across Sydney harbour to the Heads is light-filled and lovely. The views are front and centre while the interiors are serene and chic. An easy sophistication, a quiet retreat. Balmoral Beach Apartment by AP Design House.

Rui Ribeiro’s Kensington flat

Muted, muddy tones (such as Farrow & Ball’s Mouse’s Back, the colour of my bedroom that I am obsessed with) and a carefully curated mix of scultutal furniture and accessories come together to create a serene yet stylish dwelling in a Kensington flat of designer Rui Ribeiro. (Photos: James McDonald)
