This Tribeca loft is everything I could want in the industrial loft I’ve been dreaming about for a quarter of a century. Exposed brick and sprinkler pipes, archways, decorative tin ceilings are juxtaposed with elegant and refined furnishings and built-ins that add a luxurious feel. The result is dramatic and polished but very cozy. Designed by Studio DB. Photography by Matthew Williams.

Palais Royal

What could possibly be better than living in an apartment in the Palais Royal, the vast palace created by the Cardinal Richelieu in 1633 in the 1st arrondissement of Paris? The historic building. The gardens. Quite possibly living in an apartment in the Palais Royal designed by Isabelle Stanislas.

And the sea goes on forever

“Great architecture and interior design is always site-responsive and client-specific. It reflects and amplifies the character and attributes of its place, and of its owners. It is progressive and ambitious yet timeless.”

The old apartment was pokey and ignored the view. The new apartment is streamlined, light-filled and drinks in the sea that goes on forever. Add clever storage and hidden doors and it’s just about perfect contemporary living. Clovelly Apartment by Sydney-based James Garvan Architecture.

I’m really digging the vintage vibes in this Hampstead apartment designed by Lonika Chande, but CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE YELLOW KITCHEN! WOW! That shade of yellow could not be more perfect. This is one to stash in the inspiration folder immediately! A former Artist’s studio, this dated first floor apartment was reconfigured to create a unique London pied-à-terre. An artist herself, the client already owned some pieces that she was keen to incorporate, and these formed the basis of the schemes.  Focusing on a warm, earthy palette created the perfect backdrop for the existing artworks, sourced antiques and furnishings. (And check out this project by Lonika Jo featured last year)

A layered New York City apartment

How to make a bland apartment in the middle of the city cozy yet sophisticated? Layers! Add in lots of art (large scale works!), lighting, comfortable furniture and pillows in soft fabrics. Alllll the fabrics! I adore all the upholstered pieces, particularly in the bedrooms that add to the comfort and give a cocooning vibe. Hats off to Gari Camaisa for the fabulous job designing this Sutton Place, NYC condo.
