It can be tough when starting with a builder-grade, white box of nothingness and wanting the result to be cozy and inviting. Marissa Bero managed to do just that in this Manhattan apartment, even with keeping the main living space white. Built-in bookcases create a much more homey feel in the living room area and the plush rug, lounge-y sectional and puppies really add to the chill vibe 🙂 Subtle patterned wallpaper in the bedrooms help add texture but maintain brightness. Shadow play

“We were invited to transform a classic prewar apartment into a stylish but unfussy family home. The interior palette varies as dark smaller spaces flow into progressively lighter larger rooms. This subtle transition of color makes the larger rooms, although low ceilinged, feel even more spacious and brighter. The use of velvety warm grays and ivory colors in the space is accentuated by an ensemble of antiques, mid-century modern and contemporary pieces. The clients’ art collection and family heirlooms bring depth and history to the eclectic mix.”

I’m not sure what I love more about this renovation, the subtle play of light and shadow across the apartment or the easy going almost lived in look? I guess it doesn’t matter because it’s the sort of home I’d move into in a heartbeat. Greenwich Village Apartment by Hendricks Churchill.

The Attic

Elegant and refined high up on the roof tops in Madrid’s Salamanca area. If this is interior designer Isabel López-Quesada‘s idea of living in an attic then who am I to complain?

Living above the shop

It’s fabulous to be back blogging in a new year. Here’s to 2022 being so much better and brighter than last year. I couldn’t think of a better home to start off the year than this apartment above a shop … but not just any shop. It’s Barracuda Interiors showroom in the sea side town of Comporta, Portugal. Think relaxed beachy vibe with natural materials, old found pieces and the occasional pop of colour against a bleached out colour palette. The perfect holiday getaway or imagine being lucky enough to enjoy it year round.

Rich colours and layers

If you are going to embrace colour and pattern in your home, I saw GO ALL OUT. And this is how you do it. Patterns in florals, leopard, ikat and more, and colours in the richest, yummiest shades of raspberry, teal, mustard, plum, pink…. you’d think the owners are some extravagant, eccentric, worldly couple who have lived here 80 years.
