Take a dive with me into the portfolio of New-York based interior designer Sebastian Zuchowicki. He calls it interior direction and if the several properties I’ve shared are any indication it’s also the right direction. Sophisticated urban living beautifully curated.

It’s all about the balance. The balance between the natural environment and the man-made, between sustainability and resilience as well as style and panache. The balance between inside and out, of making a statement and blending in, of being a shelter from the elements but sitting lightly on the ground. I think the balance is perfect. Remember when a strictly curated colour palette of black and white was the thing? When I see spaces like this I kinda want to be a thing again. Beautiful but strict simplicity. I want more. Guest Cottage by Diana Rice and Chelsea Reale of interior design firm Sissy+Marley.

This isn’t officially a castle but given it definitively has the appearance of one and the fact that it’s called “Castlefields” I think it’s worthy of my Sunday castle feature 🙂
Castlefields is an exceptionally handsome Grade II-listed former hunting lodge set in grounds of a third of an acre. Built in the early 19th century in the Tudor Revival style, it is positioned on the edge of the market town Calne in Wiltshire, within the Calne Conservation Area. Internal accommodation measures some 6,000 sq ft, encompassing six double bedrooms, a suite of attic rooms and an incredibly versatile series of living spaces. The original architectural detailing is highly unique with wonderful original joinery, fenestration, plasterwork, and chimneypieces. It also features exquisite stonework, seen perhaps most notably in the beautiful stone cantilever staircase. Additionally, a separate cottage for ancillary accommodation is currently divided into two independent one-bedroom apartments. This is currently under offer (was for sale for £1,695,000) via Inigo.

A cinematic color palette of olive green distemper is the interior version of a camera obscura; moody hues urge one to focus attention on a world beyond – city lights and formidable views –before turning your attention to the crafted interior. Designed specifically for entertaining, this space is intimate during the day and dashing at night. In this 4,000 square foot space, a gathering of people and fine art by masters such as Louis Bourgeois, Mark Grotjahn and Jean Dubuffet mix well in purposefully rustic, modern comfort.  A layered collection of textured textiles, industrial, antique and modern pieces contrast the sleek lines of this penthouse, creating an environment that is at once studious and negligently glamorous.
