Sunday magazine inspiration

Posted on Sun, 18 Nov 2018 by KiM

I am sharing a bit of Architectural Digest inspiration today as these 2 homes caught my attention hard and really got my design juices flowing. This first one was featured in AD France and is located in Place du Palais-Bourbon. Doesn’t get much swankier than that…until you see inside this apartment! It is a stunner, down to the brass trim in the living room. And will you look at the hardwood in the photo below!! Designed by Studio KO, photos by Ambroise Tézenas.

This was in just as fabulous but much more casual, bright and showcases some gorgeous vintage furniture and lighting. Featured in AD Germany, this next home is that of fashion photographer Andrea Maino and is located in a 100 year old converted shoe factory in northern Italy. Photos by Helenio Barbetta.

Another remarkable project from the talented team of L’agence Véronique Cotrel. This time it’s the complete renovation, layout, and decoration of a 60 m2 apartment in Saint Germain des Prés. From an architectural point of view, the fundamentals were totally restored. The original wood beams were uncovered from beneath layers of plaster. The kitchen, a bit of an awkward space is a total gem with stunning tile and brass accents. It’s odd they chose dark uppers and lighter lower cabinets but hey – in Paris anything goes!

A modern batcave

Posted on Tue, 18 Sep 2018 by KiM

A modern batcave is what local Ottawa designer Henrietta Southam has dubbed this project of hers. I LOVE when a theme is carried throughout a home, and in this case it’s dark, dark, DARK! (Oh and brass accents baby!) The drama is real folks. Also to note is that all the ceilings are painted out dark as well. Because if you’re going to do it, do it right! P.S. The kitchen tumbling block patterned tile is what I almost used for my foyer/kitchen floor before  settled on black/white hex.

Photos: Marc Fowler. And in case you missed Henrietta’s home last week, it’s here.

A calm city retreat in Auckland

Beautifully tailored with some stunning material choices and clever storage, this monochromatic Auckland apartment is rich in details. The stone kitchen counter top is so stunning I just want to run my hands all over it and the brass Art Deco inspired brass screen … swoon. The surprise is the rich terracotta tones of the master bedroom. Hereford Apartment by New Zealand interior design studio Hare.

I nearly fell out of my chair when I stumbled upon this new location home available via Shoot Factory. The homeowners clearly have a thing for mid-century Italian style (think Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa). Built in 1890 this 6 story Victorian has been refurbished with the most wonderful finishings like onyx, marble, leather and lots and lots of brass. There is even a screening room and spa/plunge pool and gym with a leather clad ballet bar and mirrored wall in the basement. Absolutely breathtaking!
