Copenhagen-based Norwegian architect Danielle Siggerud ‘s aesthetic is minimalist and contained with a sense of luxury in her materials like the marble that features prominently in her work. This townhouse in the water-bound neighbourhood of Holmen in Copenhagen sits within the historic grounds of the Royal Naval Base and Dockyards. The home is elegant in its restraint with a limited colour palette and a play between rough and smooth, old and new, pure and sensual.

A modern batcave is what local Ottawa designer Henrietta Southam has dubbed this project of hers. I LOVE when a theme is carried throughout a home, and in this case it’s dark, dark, DARK! (Oh and brass accents baby!) The drama is real folks. Also to note is that all the ceilings are painted out dark as well. Because if you’re going to do it, do it right! P.S. The kitchen tumbling block patterned tile is what I almost used for my foyer/kitchen floor before  settled on black/white hex.

Stalking number 2 is a Victorian era freestanding house in St Kilda. It’s just a few hundred metres from the famous Luna Park funfair, the beach on Port Phillip Bay and Acland Street’s fabulous food (not counting the Golden Arches just a few doors up!). Historic facade and modern interiors mean the best of both worlds but I’d need to inject just a little more of my own personality into it. The client wanted a whole home refresh without doing a major remodel. The team at Heidi Caillier Design redesigned the house with new furnishings, wall coverings, carpet and paint. The mix of old and new, the play of pattern and colour, the layering of textures and materials all create a home that is comfortable and livable, beautiful and curated. I don’t know what I love more, the many discreet sitting areas or the richly layered bedrooms.

This three storey Victorian terrace house in Fulham’s Parsons Green district has been carefully redesigned and redecorated by the Sims Hilditch team to create a feeling of a family home with warmth and character, a city residence full of country charm.
