Natural light. That lovely filtered light that wakes you through the filmy curtains. The strong shaft of bright light that moves across your kitchen table as the day ages. It’s warm and sweet, soft and welcoming. I love to see rooms captured in natural light. Like a beautiful face without makeup. Real and lovely. No artifice, loads of personality. I’m really liking photographer Simon Griffith‘s photographs. The rooms are welcoming and gentle. No special effects. Just beautiful spaces captured beautifully.

Retrouvius update

I was completely smitten with the work of interior design and architectural salvage firm Retrouvius when I blogged this London team back in ’09. It’s about damn time I blog some of their latest work. Their aesthetic and love of reclamation really tugs at my heartstrings. I want them to father my design children. And I want founders Adam Hills and Maria Speake stashed away in my back pocket so I can make use of their creativity and ability to find the coolest sh*t whenever I please. Realistically though, how about we all just enjoy some of their latest brilliance. Oh – and they have a book that just came out. (P.S. Can someone please tell me the name of those square uneven tiles in the first several kitchens? I’ve loved those for ages and would love to get my hands on some one day).

LOVE!!!

I absolutely love this house. Every bit of it. This completely renovated home, located in Barcelona, was designed by Egue y Seta. Original wooden beams were restored, and the kitchen (LOVE!) now expands 1/3 of the ground floor. I am totally enamoured with the tumbling block patterned tile that is used throughout the majority of the home – and don’t get me started on the tiny hexagon tiles. L O V E !!!!!! (via Micasa)

Balmoral Beach blue

More inspiration from the portfolio of Arent & Pyke. Fresh and fun, crisp and inviting. The perfect kitchen for this beachside character house. Blue never looked for inviting.
