I LOVE this Venice, California home which happens to belong to Anna Paquin and Steve Moyer. A sweet vintage, mid-century modern vibe, designed by Arabella McIntosh. Arabella completed the interior decoration and styling of this 7000 sqft home in just five months during 2019 while the family were overseas filming. The brief was to add warmth and character to the newly built home. With a group ethos on sustainability and using materials already in circulation they were able to create a new home with as little new materials as possible. Over 80% of Arabella’s budget was spent on vintage pieces and materials. Antiques were sourced from all over the US and from Europe. Custom pieces were created to suit the large family’s needs. The oversized dining table/ ping pong table in the downstairs area Arabella designed is made from maple floorboards salvaged from a bowling alley – and the iron base was once a kitchen island. The pendant that sits above it is a repurposed truck hubcap, and even the canopy is vintage, sourced to match the patina of the light. It doubles as a large seating area to entertain guests next to the wet bar. It also doubles as a ping pong table for Steve and his son with a removable custom leather net and paddles. Texas-born and London-based Brandon Schubert is a new-to-me interior designer who seems to be able to embrace several of my favourite styles like traditional British and mid century whilst embracing some bits of colour and contemporary touches. He loves to create interiors that feel natural in their setting and which draw on different time periods for energy and balance with a sense of permanence. These are a selection of spaces from his portfolio that caught my eye.
What was once the very dated mid century Nashville home of country singer Tammy Wynette, is now a chic, hollywood glam meets contemporary cool and casual space with one of the sweetest pools I have ever seen. How much of a challenge would furnishing a home with so many curved walls be?! ‘TammyWood’ designed by Rachel Halvorson.
This 1968 home on Lake Austin, Texas recently underwent a dramatic transformation inside and out and is a wonderful backdrop to the homeowner’s extensive art collection. Modern yet has some cozy spaces for relaxing, whilst maintaining an overall mid century vibe. The dining room does double duty as a conference space for these work from home times, and the sliding wall is in fact a massive white board. Love that!

This beautiful home in the suburbs of Madrid was designed by Isabel López-Quesada. A neutral palette, an eclectic blend of furnishings with a fairly strong lean towards mid-century and an all-around timeless vibe makes this a winner.
