Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 5 Nov 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

This is Carmen, our 5 year old Havanese. She loves to take her Bear on the Mies van der Rohe chair and pull his hair out.
Sara (Amsterdam)

Our little Uno on the scandinavian buffet. He never used to sleep on it for the last two years, but since one week, it’s his new spot!
– Yasmina & Denis (Brussels – Belgium)

Here is my Mika! He loves this chair that gives him the feeling of seating together with the rest of the family around the table.
– Izeta (Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina)

Please see attached, photos of our beloved ginger cat Gibi.
– Sabrina

This is our beloved Misza (read Mischa), russian blue. This sink is one of his favourite pieces because he drinks only running water.
Joanna (Warsaw, Poland)

– Margo (Comox, BC)

This is my 12 year old Lab Logan…She’s the Queen of my heart and Queen of the Jungle!
– Michele (Ontario)

This is Cat Boy Slim, sitting on my new, second hand retro recliner. He is a 14 year old rescue Cornish Rex. I think he suits the chair better than I do 🙂
– Mel

I wanted to submit one of my 3 yr English Bulldog, Wilma.  She’s become the star of our blog (harumpf.. thought it was about the decorating :)) and she loves to model during our photoshoots.  Here she is, showing off an ottoman I had reupholstered solely for her use to get up onto our bed.

This is my 1 year-old German Shepherd – he’s not normally allowed on furniture but this chair suits him perfectly and has become his throne!
Annie (San Diego, California)

Siggy, our Golden Retriever puppy, found a chair just her size & color at our kitchen table.
– Shelley (Rogers, AR)

Here is Louissa Juliana Regina Felinina, on my bed two years ago. I had to give her away when I deployed to Afghanistan and I miss “LouLou” so very much.
– Sarah

1 & 2 – Attached are two photos of my 8 month old chihuahua/maltese puppy, Eleanor Rigby, lounging on an acrylic chair next to our bar cart.  She’s ready for a drink after an exhausting day of napping and barking at squirrels.
3 – Here she is on our sofa as well.

Tracey

This is Kiku, the most arrogant cat in the world although we saved his life (we found him in the middle of a big crossroads in the centre of Warsaw). The colour of the couch was chosen by our 3 year old daughter.
Ewa

This is a picture of Oscar owning it. He Owns Everything.
– Joanne (Melbourne)

Here is Neko on the hunt for her favorite spot in our new house. So far the chair is winning, but she looks fantastic on the poof.
– Lydia

Pictures 1 and 2 features our 8 month old cat Chloe and our ikea furniture. Picture 3 features our 1 year old rabbit Chewbacca and our new ikea chair.
– Filipa (Portugal)

Here is Moco (again) by our entryway on her beloved Mobler chairs.

I am a contributor and photographer for Apartment Therapy and I took this photo of Cutler during one of my house tour photoshoots. He has pretty much taken over this iconic Gaetano Pesce Up Chair and his owners have given up. He is so cute that he gets away with everything. Cutler you are the best!
Marcia Prentice (Los Angeles, California)

Chubby on the fridge, probably waiting for me to stop bugging him so he can take a bite out of that plant.
– Doug (San Francisco, CA)

I found these teak mid century chairs on Craigslist. They had white vinyl covers and I had them reupholstered at Spruce with Thomas Paul Plume fabric in chartreuse. Those chairs make me giddy every time I look at them and I thought they deserved a bright and happy color! I think Maggie (miniature Labradoodle) and Fern (Havanese) agree, they are always on “their” chairs.
– Alejandra & Ben (photos by Suzi)

Elvis (photo 5), is a stray whose life has been tough. Forgotten by somebody when she moved away, he was nastily bitten by her Yorkshire (who seemed to be as hooked on drugs as this “lady” was). He consequently auto-amputated his tail and when he arrived at my home he was almost mad with pain. I could only cure him by slipping tablets in his food as he was too wild. But with lots of love and care, Elvis is now part of my furry gang. This is his personal penthouse…in my garage…with plenty of blankets and soft cushions (he likes to be on his own). Clementine (photo 2) arrived this summer so skinny…she was also “forgotten”… Chat (photo 1) is a mystery cat and has chosen to stay with us. Petit Coeur (photo 4), Miss (photo 3) and Lipton (photo 3) are my “official” pets, having left the same house 12 years ago because unhappy.
– Maria (Switzerland)

1 – Casper sitting on an Ikea armchair, made cosy with an arctic fox fur and a Brora cashmere blanket
2 – Casper sleeping on a sofa from sofa.com (covered in their ‘rose’ house viscose linen), with a Johnstons of Elgin checked blanket.

This is our 3 year old Alaskan Malamute, Koda, on his favorite love seat in our home in San Francisco, CA.

*******A plea for help…..
A cat rescue organization here in Ottawa called Country Cat Sanctuary is looking for some help. They didn’t ask me to blog this, but they have helped me in the past with costs for vet bills of some of my former stray cats and I feel like I should help (besides the donation I made the other day). In their care, among many others, is a 3 year old cat named Olive.

Here’s the explanation of Olive’s troubles from their Facebook page: her immune system decided that her teeth is something it should fight against and her gums and all the way down her throat is all inflamed to the point of being raw.She has great difficulty eating and swallowing due to pain. Having her on antibiotics does not even make a dent in her discomfort we have to bite bullet and do an oral surgery and take all her pearly whites out. For those of you outside of Canada, you may not be aware of how ridiculously expensive veterinarian care is in this country. For example, my 20 year old cat had to get a few of his remaining teeth pulled about a month ago, and it cost about $800. Olive’s surgery will be very expensive, so I thought I would try and help by mentioning it here. If any of you can spare a few dollars, please visit this site https://www.canadahelps.org/Admin/MCHome.aspx and follow the instructions – the organization’s name is COUNTRY CAT SANCTUARY or you can use their number 822788279RR0001. In the message section please put that it is for “OLIVE”. Thanks guys. 🙂

*** Please check out my story after the jump. It’s a plea for help on behalf of an organization trying to do their part to provide sick and elderly cats a home.

This is our baby Glico, she is a three month old Dalmatian sitting on one of our Calligaris ‘Basil’ chair.
– Natsuki (Brisbane, Australia)

Anthropologie’s Cotswold Sofa, Clifford & Winston approved.
– Courtney

My Miniature Boston Terrier Rufus spends his days luxuriating on my bed, watching the boats go down the Hudson River from our NYC apartment.
– Kiel

Sweet Pea the cat on an antique cow horn chair in Glen Arbor, MI.
– Sara

This is Henry, he’s a 9 year old Havanese, hanging out in his favorite spot in the living room.
– Krista (Chicago, IL)

This is Bonbon de Chocolate, resting in her favorite sink on the powder room. Whenever she is thirsty, she stays next to the sink, ready for me to open the faucet.
– Alicia (California)

Here is our ferret Angus on the “crapaud” chair in the living room and our Cavalier King Charles, Byron, in his favorite place: the sofa.
Sonia & Tristan (Normandy, France)

Yoshi is more known around Bondi then me! We just seem to be the people chaperoning him around town!!  He’d definitely be a local fave up at north Bondi with the kids and cafe owners who cant resist his hungry eyes. Guy the Chef up at Jo and Willlys saves a piece of his organic bacon for him every Saturday morning! It’s quite ridiculous! Not even we get treated that well!

************************************

And now that plea for help. I received an email from Graham who works for a wonderful organization in the UK for cats who would typically be euthanized if brought to a shelter. I blogged about them a while back, here

Hi,
I am Graham, a trustee of St Francis Hospice for Cats. I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who read our story and then made a donation and/or started to follow us on our social media sites after our charity was last featured here back in February.

St Francis Hospice for Cats is based in the UK in Derby and we care for elderly and ill cats. We have 20 residents at present, 10 of whom are FIV+ but are otherwise in generally good health. Most of our residents come to us as it is their last chance, either because of their age or because of an illness which they may have. We are currently looking to find a loving home for one of our residents. If you would like to know more about adopting a cat from us please visit our website or email us at cathospice@sky.com

We are currently finding it difficult to get enough committed volunteers who are able to help every week to ensure that we cover all the daily needs of our adorable residents. So if you live in the UK in the Midlands and think that you may be able to give us a few hours a week then please do get in touch.

If you aren’t local to us but would still like to help you could make a donation or you could take a look at our Amazon wish list which we have recently set up.

Many thanks
Graham

I told Graham how shocked I was that they don’t have enough volunteers to cover the shifts to care for these poor cats (their main volunteer left with no warning!!). It’s one thing to not have enough money to donate, but everyone has a bit of time to spare. If I didn’t live so far away, I’d be there in a second. (On a side note, I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes because I lived right down the road from the Ottawa Humane Society until it recently moved to a larger location, and I kept telling myself I should volunteeer to walk the dogs, but I could never bring myself to do it. The shelter here does not have a no kill policy and I could not bear the thought of getting to know a dog who could possibly never leave that horrible place. Pretty selfish of me.) So if any of you have a few dollars to spare, please make a donation. And if you live near the Hospice and you have a few hours a week to spend time with these cats, please contact them. They’re a great organization and I’d love to be able to help them out again.

Before I end this post I’ve got to show you some photos Graham sent me of some of the resident cats. I follow them on Facebook and their photos of these cats always warm my heart.

This is our Tibetan Terrier, Theodore. We bought this new chair, and he immediately thought it belonged to him.
– Terra (Dallas, TX)

This is our Scottish Terrier, Grey, checking out the guest room with the newly installed reclaimed wood door headboard. Clearly, he approves and has made himself comfortable.
Pat (Carleton Place, ON)

This is Kahlua, the black dog, and the cat Crème de Menthe with their friend Lexi, on the top of the sofa. Despite reservations on some parts, they posed for this picture in New York. Maybe it was because Lexi was visiting for the weekend that Kahlua agreed to be part of the picture. Normally, she runs as soon as she sees the camera.
– Jessica

I would like to put forward my friend Barbara’s poodle Zoey for Pets on Furniture. Zoey lives in Auckland, New Zealand and in this photo is dressed up in her couture finery on Bastille Day this year.  She is a very quiet and sweet little girl who weighs a mere 3kg or 6 1/2 pounds (smaller than my cats!)
– Fiona

I hereby send you a picture of my funny little cat ‘Otje’. She is extremely fond of the goat and sheepskins we have lying around in our house. She destroyes them all in time, but we adore her!
– Ingeborg (Netherlands)

Here is Beau-Anthony our Bichon Frisee. 14 yrs old.
– Jeffrey (Dallas Texas)
