Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This picture is made 2 months ago, on a Bandhini photo-shoot. Clouseau (the dog) felt clearly on his place in this picture. Now we’re using him as a front cover for our company-profile! We are from Australia, the photo shoot was on location in India.
Annelies
That’s Opie relaxing on the weekend.
– Laura (Chicago, IL)
chair and manx (no tail) cat – Gabriel
dining chair is Italian from the 1970’s found on ebay – one of 6 used everyday in our own kitchen/dining room
goes puuurectly with our bespoke hand-painted dining table in our 70’s modernist house
note painted breeze block walls and terra-cotta floor tiles
Gary (Southampton UK)
1.Benson (my 7 year old Russian Blue Cat) and Chloe (my 7 year old Lowchen dog) together on the Lutyens Bench in our back yard.
2.Chloe trying to pretend she hasn’t wrecked my cushion display on the bed
3.Chloe relaxing on our lounge suite.

– Lisa (Auckland, New Zealand)
We live in an antique house, built in 1920, complete with furnishings to match.  Whether it’s inside or out, the pets really own the place and thankfully allow us to live here, too.
1. Our Russian Blue, Sootsie, lounging on a Queen Anne wingback (with the arms just “cat height”), recovered in a pewter colored twill.
2. Jack, a beagle mix, on the manliest chair in the house…a leather pub chair with big rolled arms.
3. Our cat, Sootsie, um…relaxes, you might say…on the antique porch swing that is original to our house.  LBJ is purported to have swung here, too…having dated the daughter of the original owner of the house.  I can only imagine that he was this cool.
4. Our yellow lab, Scout, on the antique wicker that lives on our porch.  These chairs have lived through many years of use…I just hope they can withstand this baby girl.
Mary (San Marcos, Texas)
This toile chair is where our French Bulldog Hugo sits most mornings while we get ready to go to work. Frenchie + Toile = Perfection!
– Jessica (Brookline, MA)

1. I adore vintage furniture, and it is what I purchase to mix in with our newer pieces. Here is our dog, taking advantage of my chair.
2. Our 110Lb dog, Gretal on her couch.

– Lisa (Pardeevillle, WI)

Our keeping room sofa seems to be the favorite spot for 3 of our pets; though rarely shared, they have learned to take turns…

1. Our rescue shepherd mix, Pasi, often watches for squirrels, deer, or golfers when he takes his turn– wishing he could be out there amongst them all.
2. Our youngest cat, Munch, uses her time here to wait for a bird to fly by on its’ way to the feeder…..
3. Whereas her older half-sister, Nira, usuallly shows up after dark to wait here for her next meal.

– Tracey(Dacula, Georgia)

Here you have Rodolfo pretending to be a Notre Dame gargoyle on our kitchen extractor.

Nimenos (Sevilla, Spain)

This is Tiki, bellied up to the dining room table. She likes to sit with me while I’m eating because she thinks she’s people.
– Laura (Minneapolis)

Our cat Sneeze in her favorite room. I secretly think it’s because her coat looks so nice with room.
– Katie (Detroit, MI)

1 – My maltese, Pietra, appreciating the view from our all-white contemporary sofa!
2 – My maltese, Pietra, catching some rays on our contemporary rattan chair (with white leather cushions)!

– Joanna (Stamford, CT)

again, simon on his sofa…
– Jessica (new york, ny)

Here is our warmth-loving 10 month old cat Tarts on the living room table. The laptops ventilation is working on full speed trying to ventilate itself under the 4 kilo Tarts who is actually enjoying the hot surface and the hot artificial sun! Our home is in Estonia, where we have cold winters up to -30 and we all seek for the warmer place! 😉
– Kätlin (Estonia, Tallinn)
I’ve chosen several pictures of our four cats at various pieces of furniture in our very tiny apartment (29m2). Two grey ones are a boy – Precel, and our only girl – Pchla, the black one it’s Behemot, our oldest one, and the one in socks it is Pafnucy.
– Malgosia (Krakow, Poland)

1 – This is Jay “The Great” Gatsby hanging out around the house on his favorite chair. The brown leather chair was purchased in Kansas City, MO about 4 years ago.  Gatsby is like the chair; small, sturdy and durable.
2 – Gatsby the french bulldog puppy sitting on a red swivel chair that I purchased 6 years ago.  I enjoy owning one bright piece of furniture, because it breaks up my neutral wall color and instantly adds life to a rather boring area of my home
.
– Scott (Hutchinson, KS)
Cyrus, the six month old bullmastiff, is the new member of our extended family since Saturday. He’ so sweet that he got along well with Ozzy (the beige pug and self proclaomed king of the house) faster than any other dog. They are sleeping on our new sofà…They are so cute…  Ozzy is 2 years and half old and Nena is one year old.
– Giusy and Mauro (Milan)

This is a pic of my furry child, Mr Cat – once a thin and scraggly stray who adopted us, now a fat and contented (read: fat) very spoilt part of the family. The blue velvet deep buttoned headboard was inspired by the bedroom that Don and Betty Draper share in Mad Men.
Vicki
This picture of lizzie the ladylike greyhound was taken in brooklyn on my friend’s fresh-from-the-upholsterer’s newly covered sofa. The satin and fur pillow was new also. Lizzie was 13 years old at the time.
– Priscilla
Another bonus – check out this Cat-Library Bookshelf System designed by Corentin from Belgium!

This cat belongs to Natalia Ortega, a Dominican clay artist who lives in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. I dropped by her house the other day and snapped a picture of this chill little guy. Natalia designed the chair; the cat dropped in her lap by sheer luck.
Rab

1 – chippy caught on film. chippy, my large maine coon cat, sits on one of the kitchen table chairs looking like he has been arrested for a crime.
2 – fort sheridan. this chair belonged to my boyfriend’s grandmother.  now it belongs to our cats.

Dawn (iowa city, ia)

This is Harry the 2 year old French bulldog. He is sitting on a folded Woolrich blanket that is on a Wegner Sawbuck chair. In the background is a collection of vintage McCoy pottery from the 1930’s and 40’s. The wall color is Farrow and Ball Railings.
Aaron (Williamsburg, Brooklyn. NYC)

This is a picture of Sluggo squirrel watching from his favorite spot on the ottoman.
– Aimee

Here is our one year old Mörkö (Bogeyman) bathing in the sun in a IKEA corner sofa.
– Outi (Laukkoski, Finland)

1 – This is my rescued pitbull Raelie sitting on my favorite piece of furniture: a loveseat donated to my new apartment from my neighbor. It’s “her chair”; she uses it to love and mush people. 🙂
2 – My cat Sylvia just passed away in October. This chair was only mine during dinner time. For the rest of the day, it was hers. 🙂
3 – My friend Gail’s kitten out of a litter of 10. She had just opened her eyes moments before
.
Tara (New York, NY)

This is Beatrice Hall in my boudoir.
– Alexandra

1 – Milli helps with making sure the spacing is just right with the mix of bed pillows…and yes, she is smizing with her eyes
2 – Milli finds her way in the mix of bed pillows so that she’s not only super cozy, but has a fine view of the Hudson River…and pigeons
.
– Jason (NYC)

Palika doing what he does best. Even though Crate and Barrel calls this a “chair and a half”, it only seems to fit one gray cat.
– Jon & Melissa (Seattle)

1 – This is Daisy and Duke, both 2 years old but not related. One of their favorite places to be is the back of any couch looking out for anyone to bark at.  I caught Duke, a little tired in the second one.  🙂
2 – This is Duke. Every now and then when I return to my bedroom after showering in the morning, I walk in to this…. At least it keeps me from crawling back under my warm comfy sheets. 😉
– Jennifer

And as a little bonus, I wanted to share this cool multi layer stairs for humans and their cats‏ that Sonia blogged recently on Pawesome.

***Pets on furniture will be put on hold for the next couple of weeks while I am on holidays. Feel free to continue submitting photos to me. I will resume these posts on March 14th.

Here you have our hairy persian cat Bengt, six years old. He loves our furniture, here on a armchair from IKEA and a footrest from Englesson.
– Maria

Pets Name: Sabine aka Bean, 6months old on Feb 18th
Pic 1. Nice Chair: Her strong attempt at looking regal upon her Louis the 16th chair…
Pic 2. Nice Chair: Apparently her strong attempt at looking regal bored her to sleep… upon her Louis the 16th chairs.

Our pug Mischa, who lives a life of leisure.
– Heather & Greg

Our fourteen year old Brittanies, Ruby and Kiki, spend so much time on this sofa that I can count the number of times I’ve sat on it on one hand (and we’ve owned it for years!).
– Sara (Chicago, IL)

This is Primo, our 10 week old Lagotto Romagnolo puppy.   Primo loves to hide in the flokati rug in our dining room…as you can see, it is a perfect hiding spot for him.
– Brooke (Boston, MA)

Trying to photograph my Spanish Water Dog on a bench. He is extremely camera shy so it took 40 unsuccesful tries, very cold gloveless hands, and a dog in a bad mood. Of course, whenever I do not bring my camera he sits leisurely on this favourite bench of his!
Anna (Paris, France)

We feel comfortable.

I had to share the following email with my pets on furniture fans. It’s from a French reader named Margaux:
While reading your blog, I discovered your “Pets on furniture” articles and thought that it would be interesting to introduce you to Valerie Mayan. Valerie is a french artist really interested in animals and paints portraits of them. She chose an image of your “Pets on furniture” article and painted one of them. Valérie is used to work this way : She recieves a picture of an animal, the owner tells her which kind of colours they like and Valérie paints it. So if a reader is interested by her work they just have to send her an email at the following address : valerie.mayan@gmail.com and they may also visit her website: www.valeriemayan.com

P.S. I’d like to wish my husband a very happy thirty something birthday! How about a trip to Mexico for your pressie? 🙂 Love you Jeffrey!!

Here is my kitten Harriet-who I usually just refer to as Muffin Top ( “…is all that whole grain low fat” 30 rock anyone? )- on a mid-century looking chair i found for five whole dollars  recently. Two of my favorite things.
Amber (Salt Lake City, UT)

Pierre on (his) ottoman.
Robert

Here’s a pic of my German Shepherd Major Dukes, lying pretty in a ’29 Spanish Revival apartment in Hollywood, CA. Of course, he’s got a Facebook fan page, too.
Kristopher

This is Lola (the bulldog) and Winston (King Charles Cavalier) that have grown up together.  The couch was an awesome “hand-me-down” find, with hand-made zebra pillows and tribal print pillow from World Market.  My favorite part of the couch is the substantial brass studs that go up each arm.
Rachel (Dallas, TX)

Dots likes to help with DIY, and this day she was helping me pick a paint color for my window seat. You can see another picture of her (and the paint color choice) in this blog post.
Dots has claimed our guest bed as her own.

– Cait (Florida)

The boys, Bernie (sofa) and Stuart (Chair), appreciating the Mid-Century Modern Furniture.
– Meghan (Toronto)

We recently adopted a stray cat who, as it turns out, was pregnant with 6 kittens. Here is a photo of Teeny, the kitten we are keeping, at five weeks this past weekend on our couch at home next to one of our colorful throw pillows.
– Katherine (Montreal)

My great dane, Roxy, taking over the couch!
– Marie-Eve Lussier (Montreal, Quebec)
