Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 9 Jun 2018 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking one of the best streets in the Sydney suburb of Paddington but I’m not stalking its grand Victorian terrace houses. I’m stalking what at first glance is a small weatherboard cottage squeezed between its much bigger neighbours but appearances can be deceptive. Step through the unpretentious front door and a chic inner city home opens out before you. Just goes to show you definitely can’t judge a book by its cover. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking 2

Our second real estate stalking takes us to Sydney and the inner city suburb of Paddington. It’s no secret that I love a Victorian-era terrace house and although this renovation has taken a decidedly modern turn there are still traditional elements to keep me happy. I’d love to see the bathroom in real life. Part of me loves the glass panels over the original sandstone in the shower but part of me also wonders how well it has been done. Are there dust bunnies gathering on rock ledges or salts frissing out of stone due to niggling leaks? Still it’s a cool idea. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking 1

All prim and proper, solid and traditional out the front, slick and modern out the back. I’m stalking a renovated home in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern and it’s my favourite type of renovation … a sensitively restored facade with a fun open plan family addition to the back. A small back yard isn’t so much of a drawback when stylish landscaping and easy sight lines in and out through expansive doors and cleverly placed windows blur boundaries. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking churches again

Kim and I have a fascination with church conversions. We can’t get enough. So when I came across this church hall (halls count as churches in our books) in my stalking endeavors I just had to share. It’s in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote. I love the open plan living with an industrial meets vintage cool vibe. There’s even a self contained residence at the rear. Now I wonder what the church next door looks like? Link here while it lasts.

A home for sale in Arlington

Here is another example of a home styled to sell. Photographer Marianne Blackham sent over these photos of a home for sale in Arlington, Virginia. At almost 6,000 sq ft with 5 bedrooms and a gorgeous yard, this home is a stunner. The coffered ceilings, flooring made from 150 year old reclaimed wood, custom kitchen cabinets, many french doors out to the yard and stained glass in the master bedroom make this place a dream.
