Stalking shipping containers

Posted on Mon, 25 Nov 2013 by midcenturyjo

I’ve been stalking houses in Sydney and Melbourne lately. Perhaps I’ve been a bit of a snob. I’ve ignored my own backyard here in Brisbane. So when I finally started stalking the local streets again on the weekend I found this amazing shipping container house in the riverside suburb of Graceville. We’ve featured shipping container conversions on Desire to Inspire before (like this guest house and a commercial space in Brazil) but this takes the use of containers to another level. Three levels in fact. Four bedrooms, four bathrooms, extensive open plan living area and a level of finish that belies the industrial origin of the building blocks. The link to the real estate listing is here and you’ll find an interview with the builder/designer Todd Miller from Ziegler Build here.

Stalking in a storm

Posted on Wed, 13 Nov 2013 by midcenturyjo

At this time of the year severe electrical storms are a daily feature where I live. I’m racing a roiling storm cloud as I type this. Please excuse me if I don’t stay on too long. I’d hate to fry my computer. This Northcote, Melbourne house is by FMD Architects and the garden by Eckersley Garden Architecture. Oh that lightning strick was a bit too close. I’ll have to leave you to stalk this house by yourself. Link here while it lasts.

Friday stalking

I’m stalking a little weatherboard cottage in the inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond. Cute and colourful with a youthful vibe. Wish the photos were better and there were a lot more! I spy a few treasures from Fenton & Fenton I do believe. One of my favourite shops. Link here while it lasts.

P.S. Speaking of lots of lovely photos I had the super talented Elizabeth from Walk among the homes shooting at my house today. Great fun! I’ll let you know when she posts the story. In the meantime pop over and see inside some of Brisbane’s real homes by real people.

Look here’s another home in Richmond. A warehouse apartment this time. Rug seems familiar? Link here for this one.

Stalking when I grow up

Posted on Thu, 31 Oct 2013 by midcenturyjo

One day, when I grow up, I will own an old house with amazing period features, in an overgrown jungle of a garden, a stone’s throw to all the inner city action. Leadlights and archways, fireplaces and sunrooms, winding stairs and balconies with potted plants, a rooftop conservatory and sundeck with views to the city skyline. It will have a name like “Friars” and I will fill it with my treasures and be very, very happy. This could almost be my dream house. I’d just have to change that dining room. The curtains are killing me! Maybe some rugs in the living room. Get rid of the wall to wall carpeting. More books in the family room. Those shelves are screaming out to be filled. See I’m making plans already. Stalking in Centennial Park, Sydney. Link here while it lasts.

Stalking with a stiff upper lip

Posted on Tue, 22 Oct 2013 by midcenturyjo

One must keep one’s composure when one is stalking upper crust, tasty morsels in Blighty. A five bedroom house in Notting Hill, London with beautiful communal gardens and floors one just wants to stroke. Oh those old stone. Stiff upper lip old chap because it has sold. Bright side is that one did not have the readies with which to make the purchase. From the wonderfully exclusive Domus Nova.
