Stalking on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 22 Dec 2012 by midcenturyjo

At this time of the year the cities and towns across Australia empty as the population begins the annual Christmas migration to the beach. It is the ultimate family daydream to own a beach shack with water views or if you can’t afford to buy one then at least rent it for the two weeks around Christmas and into the new year. Sun, sand, surfing and copious amounts of seafood and alcohol. That’s the way to celebrate Christmas in the Great Southern Land. Today I’m stalking the ultimate beach shack at the most easterly tip of Australia, in the celebrity holiday town of Byron Bay. Owned by the Arnott (biscuit) family it is known by the locals as “The White House”. Time to check the biscuit jar for the extra coin though. Asking price is over $6 million AUD. Ouch! You can rent it for around $14 000 a week (Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson have). Save me a place on Boxing Day. I’ll bring the prawns and champers. Link here while it lasts.

Now where was I?

Ah yes. Real estate stalking. My last for the week is this inner city Melbourne warehouse. The long time home of an artist it is a wonderful mix of Victorian era industrial, warm timbers and garden oasis. Rambling vines soften the facade while soaring tree ferns shade the inner courtyard. Hard to imagine that you are in Fitzroy almost in the shadows of the city skyscrapers. A little jewel on the hard gritty streets. Link here while it lasts.

Week of stalking 8

Boho glam with retro riffs. Eclectic, eccentric and just a little irreverent. Rockstar meets grand old dame in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill. Oh how I wish I could see the subject of today’s real estate stalking photographed for a magazine feature. Wide angles and unsympathetic lighting are killing these design diva digs. Hang buying the house. I’d be happy just shelling out for the chandeliers. Yum! Link here while it lasts.

Keep up. Keep up. Our real estate stalking tour is on the roll again. Crisp and fresh and bright and new all wrapped up in an historical Sydney terrace house. Casually elegant modern living in the inner city with open plan living/dining and a gourmet kitchen. Love the artwork, love the subdued colour palate with flashes of yellow. Want those kitchen lights. Unfortunately we are just a little too late to daydream about making this tailored terrace our home. It’s sold. Link here while it lasts.

Week of stalking 6

The exterior turns a cold shoulder to the neighbourhood. What on earth is behind the stark concrete walls in Albert Park, Melbourne? A warehouse? A commercial space? A bijou shabby chic home? Well yes, of course! We are pausing here on our stalking whistle stop tour to show that not everything is as it seems. Imagine what is hiding behind all those blank walls. No windows to peer through, no idea. Secretly though I popped this house up because I love old gramophone horns as lampshades and I spy four. Link here while it lasts.
