This Chiswick, London Victorian townhouse was renovated and then sold by Chris Graves of Clarence & Graves. I had to share for 2 reasons: it has a DeVol kitchen and glorious green crittall windows/doors. Among other fabulous things like how many of the original details were maintained during the renovation. I love the light, airiness and playfulness of this home. Settle – the converted railway carriages

Posted on Tue, 9 Nov 2021 by KiM

My previous post was of the cabin at Settle. Now time to introduce the restored train carriages. Perfect for a calm, rustic, back to basics getaway. We rescued three retired railway goods carriages, sympathetically restoring them to offer luxurious lakeside retreats. Each offers two sleepyheads a lounging area by a wood fire, a well-stocked kitchen, a cosy bathroom, and a decking terrace, with a fire pit, overlooking a scenic lake.

An 1850s farm in Sweden

My dreams about moving out to the country and having lots of land and a farmhouse look something like this. Pehrses farm was built in 1853, is on 2.05 hectares with several outbuildings and located in Hälsinglands, Sweden. It has many historic, original details like several tiled stoves, wood floors, wallpaper, rafters etc. Absolutely gorgeous. This home is available for sale via Historika Hem.

A 15th century Croatian compound

Oh so this is what heaven looks like! A 15th century Croatian compound (or castle to flow with my new Sunday theme) complete with a medieval tower, restored by New York–based architect Steven Harris and his husband, interior designer and artist Lucien Rees Roberts. I have to say that in all my years of blogging this is up there as one of the most spectacular properties I have ever seen. What a gem! (Photos: Scott Frances)

A 19th century former corner store in Sydney

Posted on Wed, 22 Sep 2021 by KiM

What was once a Victorian Georgian corner store is now a modern, 2-story, 4 bedroom home with original and new details like sandstone walls, travertine floor pavers, mother of pearl mosaic tile, leathered quartzite, venetian plaster and stained glass floral reliefs. This is an honourable example of how to renovate a traditional space whilst transforming it for modern times. By YSG. (Photos: Prue Ruscoe)
