Beáta and her husband have lovingly remodeled and restored this absolutely beautiful 1900s mansion in Hungary. Beáta is an interior decorator and her husband is a contractor so most of what you see was done over the past 10 years by themselves (they even fabricated the iron doors and lamps!). The exposed brick and beams and flooring choices really stand out in this home. Wonderful job Beáta and thank you for sharing with us!

My house is in uproar. Dust and paint drips, kitchen contents in the dining room, clothes racks in the living room. I’m in the throes of a major renovation and all I want to do is escape. Alas I can only take a virtual getaway but what a destination! The stunning stone masseria in Sicily called Dimora delle Balze has eleven hotel rooms in total. I can’t make up my mind which one I like the most but seeing this is a daydream I can linger long enough to try them all. Meet you in the gardens for a long lunch extending into the warm evening.

I have always loved that first image. I posted it way back here. It’s Tregoning House at Avalon Beach, Sydney by architect Daniel Raymond. The sad thing is that for ages it was the only glimpse of the large barn like extension that I could find. Somehow I just knew that I would love the rest of the house. Raymond is now a director, along with Thomas Martin, of Rama Architects and it’s there my wish was granted. More photos!!

A total transformation from an old abandoned storage shed to a dreamy contemporary home on the island of Ibiza pays homage to its rustic beginnings while providing all the modern luxuries we now expect in a getaway home. Tactile concrete floors, plastered walls and old beamed ceilings are juxtaposed with sleek glass and steel. Designed by Jurjen van Hulzen of The Nieuw and Ibiza Interiors the house sits in a beautiful wild flower field on a remote hillside and is all about balance. Balance between old and new, rough and smooth, light and dark, luxe and rustic, the frantic world out there and the escape within.
