Amsterdam-based designer Madelon Oudshoorn Spaargaren of MOS Interiors sounds an awful lot like me. She was keen on redecorating her room at 10 years old and would move her furniture around (I spend many weekends doing this). She also believes in only using a few new pieces in a space, and reusing existing furniture by reupholstering. She doesn’t follow the mainstream, doesn’t implement fast trends. She believes in being unique, introducing fabrics from around the world, Ikea hacks, and creating warm, comfortable spaces with good energy.

The renovation of this Asa Norte apartment in Brasília was all about enhancing the social spaces. The empty nesters were downsizing from a larger duplex but still wanted the spaciousness they were accustomed to. The CoDA arquitetura design team embraced this challenge by creating integrated areas that maximize utility. A bedroom was repurposed to enlarge the living room, while the kitchen was reimagined to blend with the social zone seamlessly. Private spaces remained intact, with an expanded ensuite and versatile guest rooms doubling as home offices. The result? A unified, airy space embracing park views.

The Schoolhouse, merges old and new, combining contemporary details within conservation architecture. This family home blends dynamic and vibrant elements with understated and timeless spaces, designed to feel as though it has been permanently embedded in the historic building. Our challenge was to create an inviting, emotive atmosphere that captivates those who live there and takes them on a experiential journey.
In typical Kingston Lafferty Design fashion, this home is high drama, drenched in bold colour, full of graphic, shapely elements and I was completely sold when I got to the sunken living room. Photos: Barbara Corsico, and for more details check out est living.

I’m stalking a late-Victorian townhouse on North London’s Ospringe Road, a short walk from Tufnell Park and Kentish Town. Spread over five storeys the home is packed with charm and character. Crafted from London stock brick and crowned with steep Welsh slate roofs with tall chimney stacks, it exudes timeless elegance. The interior spaces have been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard, carefully preserving historic features such as fine plasterwork and an elegant, sculptural staircase. My favourite though is the blue reading room (painted in ‘Vardo’ by Farrow and Ball). Just perfect for a bibliophile in you.

This two-storey 1930s apartment on Gumshornsgatan, a trendy street in Stockholm’s Östermalm district has been transformed by designers Halleroed while retaining much of its original character. Embracing the modernist aesthetic, the designers skillfully reimagined the period while incorporating their own contemporary touches and flourishes. A badly considered floorplan was rationalised allowing the light-filled interior to shine. The star of the show though is the spiral staircase. I have visions of a 30’s beauty gliding down the stairs in a diaphanous evening gown of the time.
