Westport Studio

I LOVE this little 775 sq ft apartment located in Malmesbury, UK (it’s a unique hilltop market town established in 880AD!!!). This property dates to 1850, is solid stone and has been totally renovated. I’m forever a fan of old, rustic homes brought into the 21st century – love the stone walls and the beamed ceilings. It has such a cosy feel to it. The kitchen design is pretty creative – I take it it’s for folks who mostly eat out (although it even has a dishwasher!). How cool that it’s accessed from the road via a courtyard so it’s totally private. More details here and the agent’s page here.

Casa Bramasole

“If less is more then this is a lot.” Welcome to Casa Bramasole, a little piece of Scandinavian living mixed with rustic Italian in Umbria. A true fairytale – a beautiful historic building rising from the ruins. You’ll find me on this Monday morning taking coffee on the terrace sleepily drinking in the spectacular view of the Lago Trasinemo below. Might take a dip later. What a place to take an imaginary break on the first work day of the week!

Can Lis

Can Lis, Jørn Utzon‘s family home in Majorca built in 1972. Utzon settled in the Balearic Islands after leaving the Sydney Opera project in 1966. A house built using traditional building methods and materials but interpreted by one of the giant’s of 20th century architecture. A place for the day to day rituals of living steeped in ancient traditions. The Utzon Foundation carefully restored the by now rundown building between October 2011 and February 2012. A spiritual, almost sensuous space sympathethically brought back to life.

Javier’s holiday home update

Posted on Mon, 8 Apr 2013 by KiM

Back in July of 2011 I blogged the Spanish holiday home of interior designer and artist Javier Requejo. Javier emailed the other day to let us know his home was recently featured in Elle Decor España. The stellar photos and styling knock this already fabulous home out of the ballpark. I just had to share this version with you all since the first round was such a hit, and it’s pretty neat to be able to see what it takes to make a home magazine-worthy. (P.S. Javier now has a blog).

Rustic on the outside…

Posted on Tue, 26 Mar 2013 by KiM

I love a little juxtaposition of old and new in my interiors. I’ve probably said that a thousand times. It’s that element of surprise that gets me every time. This home I found on Le Case di Elixír rocks my world. Looking at the exterior, you’d never guess what was inside. Unfortunately the photos of the interior are mainly of the kitchen area but those alone did it for me.
