Living in the 70s

Posted on Thu, 23 Aug 2007 by midcenturyjo

Lisa, a loyal lurker from Canberra, Australia sent me the link to this 70’s time capsule. What do you think? Is this the home of a little old groover hanging on to the past or is it the lair of a hard core retro buff? Either way it is an amazing trip back in time. Love it all!!!!!

Wallpaper conundrum

Posted on Sun, 29 Apr 2007 by KiM

We received an email from Judy today asking for help. She found this really cute wallpaper in a picture from a carpet website and would like to know where she can find it so she can use it in her office. I’ve never seen it before so I thought someone out there might know.

Judy also wanted to share some original patterns she has created (either by hand or computer-generated) and can be found on this website. Now they too would make some fabulous wallpapers!

Stripes

Stripes are a fun graphic way to address walls, and can make a room look longer or taller. They can be a pain to paint (I can vouch for that) but there are many wallpapers out there now that can save you some of the grief. They look great anywhere, as seen here, in bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways, living rooms….

de Gournay

The China Club post had me thinking of beautiful chinoiserie wallpaper. de Gournay’s hand painted wallpapers, fabrics and porcelain are at the very top end of the decoration market and they have traditionally specialised in 18th century Chinoiserie and 19th century French designs. They also specialise in reinterpreting these designs and colours to create a contemporary feel. de Gournay’s principal wallpaper collections are Chinoiserie, French 19th century Papier Peints Panoramiques and Japanese & Korean designs. All their wallpapers are hand painted and the design team can create fabrics, blinds and porcelain to complement them or to contrast with them. Swoon….so beautiful!

Wallpaper…you know you all love it!!!!

I love wallpaper too….and would love to use some (anywhere!) but at the moment I don’t want to put that much effort into something when I plan on selling my house in the near future (wallpaper would not be a good selling feature either). So instead I search out all sorts of photos on the internet of gorgeous wallpapers and I hope that when the day comes when I decide to try some, that it won’t have gone back out of style. So here’s some I love from UK tile, wallpaper and flooring designer Dominic Crinson:

Here’s one for sh*ts and giggles (can’t imagine actually using this one):
