I love this beautiful 1911 villa – home to a couple with 5 children – in the Danish town of Frederiksberg. It’s serene, simple and bright. Styled by Katrine Martensen-Larsen (other posts of her work here and here) and photographed by Stuart McIntyre (previous post here).

I found the 16th century retreat of Italian fashion and jewelry designer Maria Calderara on the Marie Claire Maison Italy site and I think it’s the perfect ending to a chaotic work week (not only did my fiancé and his cats move in and we had a 5 day or so heat wave but I also started a new job.) I could use a little serenity, calm and peacefulness like this home exudes right about now. Maria’s refuge from her work life in Milan is exquisite. It is white and cream and simple and relatively unadorned which is perfect in such a beautiful setting. I love that there are hints of modernity here and there providing contrast to the rustic shell of the home, with a couple Tolomeos, Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chairs and a Gaetano Pesce Donna chair.

Beautiful images of beautiful rooms. Strangely calm, restrained and elegant in their simplicity these photographs are by British photographer Ray Main. People often ask why we go on and on about the photographer and not the designer or owner. Besides the fact that we will always acknowledge the site where we find the images we use, it is the photographer that captures the beauty of the room for us to see and fall in love with. I’m sure that if we all traipsed through these rooms we’d love what we saw (after several thousand of us had trampled through) but because we can’t artists like Ray transport us there, we gasp and mentally note all we love and Ray’s job is done. He has captured all that inspires us. He has communicated the beauty.

What is it about Swedish homes and Swedish real estate websites? Look at this fabulous 2 level apartment. White, just enough old with new, obviously a great location, a balcony for more than just a couple of chairs… think party for all your friends, a brick wall to die for, cool spiral staircase (perhaps a liability with all those balcony parties) and lots of light shining in. Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz is the king of white spaces. White is his trademark and it’s incredible how he can mix so many shades of white, off-white, cream, beige, ivory, eggshell….and make it WORK.
