Alec Hemer

Posted on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 by midcenturyjo

We talk a lot about light when we feature photographers. Light, composition, colour, exposure, focus. I’m captivated by the portfolio of Alec Hemer. Beautiful light and clever composition make his work highly sort after by major magazines and for companies such as Williams Sonoma, West Elm, Design within Reach and Laura Ashley. His ability to capture the essence of a room is inspiring.

A little vacation anyone?

Dutch designer Piet Boon designs and builds homes, then takes on the design of their interiors as well. He once visited friends on the island of Bonaire, in the Netherlands Antilles of the Caribbean. He loved it so much he designed his own beach villa on the island and furnished it with his own creations. It is situated right on the ocean and is available for rent. More details here. Any takers?

Walker-Warner Architects

Walker-Warner Architects is a super-talented firm established in 1989 by Brooks Walter and Greg Warner that has completed about 200 projects all over the U.S. The homes featured on their website are breathtaking. They are all fairly rustic in design (not really my thing) but WOW, what incredible summer homes they would make. I highly advise that you have a look at their portfolio for many of the exterior photos of these homes.

Crosson Clarke Carnachan

New Zealand architects Crosson Clarke Carnachan design beautiful honest spaces in quite striking places. Strong locations need empathy and this firm has a wonderful grasp of place and purpose. “At CCCA we are constantly striving to understand what is motivating the world around us. As a creative team we observe change and this informs our ideas….CCCA believe good design will produce functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces and buildings that have an enduring quality over time.” Inspiring work.

Remember when you first posted that top picture way back in May Kim? I came across a number of New Zealand sites recently and I was reminded how strong their portfolio is. Just had to share more.

Kenneth Brown

Soon after this blog came to be, I posted about designer Kenneth Brown’s beach retreat. I happened upon his website recently and discovered many more gorgeous photos of his work. He seems to LOVE wallpaper (me too!) and mixing many patterns and textures. (And any designer willing to incorporate a chopper in their designs tops my list!) Great eye-candy!
