Serge Mouille lighting

Posted on Fri, 18 Nov 2011 by KiM

On Monday Jo blogged the interior photography of Hallie Burton, and in that post were a couple of photos of a VERY cool light fixture. A reader named Martha asked about it, and I told her it was the creation of Serge Mouille. She noted that since I had already blogged about Jieldé lights (here and here), that I might be up for featuring another French lighting design. I was certainly up for the challenge, as I have coveted Serge Mouille fixtures for some time now. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be owning one of these beauties anytime soon as they are awfully pricey. Damn.

Friday stalking 2

Just a simple little workers cottage in Richmond, Melbourne. Neat, tidy, in need of an update but in all its 80s dowdiness it’s the home of stylish hipsters. I’m having fun making up stories about who lives here. She’s a graphic artist and works in indie publishing. He works for an NGO and will one day finish those last few subjects he needs to complete his law degree but he’s been saying that for years. They laughed about the raspberry carpet when they moved in but they made it work. There wasn’t much they could do about the weird doorway as they were only renting but the landlord is cool. He let them paint… as long as it was white. The first thing they did after moving in was to pop a couple of boards across the ugly bin bay out the front. Voilà! A bench seat perfect for waiting for the taxi. Weird. I seem to know them really well 😉 It’s a shame the landlord is selling. Well that’s my make believe story anyway. Link here while it lasts.

Somebody cool built a very cool house in 1967. Somebody cool is now selling this house in 2011. What’s not cool is the price (over $2 million because it is in Toorak in Melbourne) and the fact that it will probably be demolished to build one of the pseudo-French McMansions that are growing like weeds in this very upmarket suburb. I could move in right away if only I had the cash. Love the original kitchen. Would living here make me cool too? 😉 Link here while it lasts.

Bricks Amsterdam – part 3

Posted on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 by KiM

I’ve got one last apartment for you by James of Bricks Amsterdam (other projects here and here). In this apartment the layout was changed, everything was re-built and completely furnished. It’s got a similar vibe as the other 2 – moody, comfortable, and monochromatic.
