Enrique Menossi part 1

Posted on Wed, 4 Apr 2012 by midcenturyjo

Every so often I come across a website that makes me stop, draw a deep breath then exhale, whistling softly between my teeth. It’s an oh my god moment. I see so many photos in my travels around the interwebs, so many beautiful images. Sometimes I see images that are even more inspiring… if that’s possible… than the images I share with you everyday. Today you’ll feel the same way I do. Welcome to the portfolio of Barcelona based photographer Enrique Menossi. First the rustic…

Some beauty amidst the chaos

Posted on Tue, 3 Apr 2012 by KiM

Over the weekend I did something I have wanted (and needed) to do for a long time. I bought an iMac. It’s my first Mac and while the most beautiful piece of technology on the planet, I want to pull my hair out as I have no freaking idea how to do anything. With a programming background and someone who spends every waking moment on a computer (it seems), this is super duper frustrating and is going to take some time to get used to. I set myself up in the non-insulated office at the back of my house now that the weather is getting warmer and I snapped a couple pics of the thrown-together space which I hope to stick up on my page in the near future. Since I don’t have all the programs I need up and running yet, my posts may not be as frequent this week as I would like. Anyhoo, I managed to get some photos ready for this post (without too much of a disaster) that I found in the portfolio of Swedish stylist Saša Antić. He has a great eye for detail and creates magazine-worthy vignettes – go figure as he’s styled for all of my favourite Swedish and British mags.

Hamptons home

Serene and casually elegant. Just a little quirky. Found objects sit beside modern art and antique furniture. No clash of the kitsch or fight to the death between disparate elements though. This home is beautifully curated. It’s simply stylish and stylishly simple. The perfect holiday escape fro New York designer James Huniford.

Martin Dyrløv

Hello! Oh my! Fanning myself because I’m feeling weak. I have a new photographer crush. So what’s new?!! Kim has featured the work of Danish photographer Martin Dyrløv before but there is so much more to see these days on his website and, well, I’m smitten. Wonderful work. Beautiful photos.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 2 Apr 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This is my cat, Otter (or Mr. Otter Pants, as he’s more formally known), having a snooze on a reupholstered antique chair. It’s part of a set that my mom found at a rummage sale for $5 many years ago. I had them recovered and refinished when she was through with them, and now they’re my favorite pieces in my house.

This is Lovey Howl on her very own mini Adrian Pearsall style sofa. Hipsterrrrrrrrr!
– Sabrina (Silver Lake, Los Angeles)

This is my Boston Terrier, Harriet, killing our Barcelona chair because it’s the best place to see out the front window.
– Kari (Madison, WI)

This is Westan [Rowan Brown] after a long day at work. I’ve been with her for 5-weeks but I can’t recall event a minute of life before her. (She is part of my late-twenties’ becoming an adult.)
Dylan (Boston, MA)

1 – The first (2) images are of two newly refinished teak chairs I just bought from a mid-century shop in our ‘hood. They only just got placed by the window as I brought them in, and five minutes later they became the new favorite sleeping spot for our three-legged kitten Tabitha (and her big brother Mr.Mister). Of course, the chairs are still in the same spot couple of months on.
2 – Not sure if this counts as furniture, but it is our renovated bathroom I sent to you pics of last year. The black walnut vanity was a simple design I had made by a local furniture maker. The sink was a gift from a contractor relative. Our adopted three-legged kitten cat (Tabitha) has a real keen interest in water….anytime, anywhere.
– Paul

Here are my four-legged kids:
1. Chester – who has always loved to sleep on his back ever since he was a kitten…napping in the vintage Bertoia Bird Chair, aka his favorite spot.
2. & 3.  Lily – she is oh so photogenic & decided to strike a pose on one of my favorite Ebay treasures: a vintage 1960’s “Love” chair that I had powder coated bright white (original color was iron gray) and upholstered the seat cushion with Hable Construction fabric.
Susan (Santa Monica, CA)

This is my cat, Junior Lollipops, on my vintage rocking chair. This is her favorite spot.
– Amy (Los Angeles)

Yesterday (28th) we brought our new puppy Kate home from The Humane Society. William couldn’t get enough of her. This morning he’s a little mellower – happily sharing his grey couch. William and Kate – it was meant to be;)

Lucy and Riley lounging at the office on Linen Slipcovers and Antique Fragment Pillows!

I present you my Sun Cat perched on the top of my library (billy Ikea) just next to a basket of offerings and a South African sculpture.
Dominique

This is Silky the Maltese. She’s been in our family for nine years now and she’s our little hairy baby! Of course she owns the arms of the sofas and the whole arm wing chair, even though she has her own pillow on the floor!
Olga

Here’s my Rocko sitting on his own couch in the living room.

I’m writing from Brazil, to send a picture of my pug Cid sitted on the sofa, taking care of his precious bone…he loves to take pictures, but is hard to capture a good pose…
– Tais

Actually, i don’t have any pet at home( except  for fish) but i really wish i had one! But I have a sweety toy of elk ( haha , i know, it’s crazy). It’s just on the top of my favourite sofa. It’s white leather sofa from Relotti store. At night it can change into soft single bed. And the toy – into pretty pillow 🙂
