More breathtakingly beautiful

Posted on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 by midcenturyjo

You may remember a post from January this year that featured photos of an albergo diffuso. A stunningly beautiful series of hotel rooms in caves scattered down a slope in Italy. Today I fell in love all over again when I revisited the now fully up and running website for Sextantio Albergo Diffuso at Le Grotte della Civita. Can such a special place become even more special, more beautiful, more stunning the more I see of it? I am smitten. This is definitely a must see (and stay) spot on my wish list. The hardest thing would be choosing which grotta to stay in. Then again there is another albergo diffuso in Abruzzo… but that will have to wait till the next post.

Glimpse at a houseboat

Posted on Tue, 10 Apr 2012 by KiM

Jansje sent us a peek at another one of her photography projects – this time a houseboat in Amsterdam. (Check out previous posts of her photos here). The owner, who is in one of the photos, has done the rebuilding of this houseboat himself, and happens to be an interior designer (see his basic website). I think living in a houseboat would be a blast! When I first saw houseboats up in Yellowknife (that was back in my university days) I was mesmerized. Coincidentally I saw an episode of House Hunters yesterday where someone was looking for a houseboat in Seattle and was reminded what a cool lifestyle that would be….especially if you can take your house out for a spin down the river!

Holmen Id

Karina Holmen set up her interior and styling company in Oslo, Norway in 2009 and has been spicing up private residences, commercial spaces and hotels ever since with her easy-going, refreshing, and sassy style ever since. Love that she mixes modern pieces with vintage. Below is a sampling of her residential work along with a bit from hotels, but do be sure to check out her fabulous commercial work on her website

Stalking behind blue doors

Posted on Tue, 10 Apr 2012 by midcenturyjo

I think I may have found perfection or rather my real estate stalking buddy Andrea has. A Victorian era home in Albert Park, Melbourne. All this interior design goodness hiding behind a blue door and a couple of cloud trees. Yes please! It’s for sale and I won’t be able to afford it but at least I can drool over the pictures. The first few shots are from the real estate listing (it is for sale here) and the last few are more shots from the architects’ site (O’Connor and Houle Architecture). All I can say is that the perfection would be even better if the photos were magazine worthy. Oh… wait… they will be soon. The listing says it will be in an upcoming Vogue Living. Cannot wait!
