Dare to go bold. This three story Victorian home in London is about as quirky and eclectic as they come. A very random assortment of furnishings and artwork, some creative uses for wallpaper, some really beautiful lighting and an Ikea kitchen within a structure filled with original detail makes me love this. This is a fantastic idea – build some bookcases on either side of a window and you end up with storage, a window seat and throw in some mirrors and trim and you have the cutest little reading nook in a ‘bay window’. Via Granit.
I stumbled upon the website of London-based architecture firm Granit Chartered Architects and several of their projects wowed me. They are clearly experts in the art of transforming traditional British homes into bigger, better and more modern structures that keep original details intact where possible. Let’s end the week with a contemporary take on the classic mid century bachelor pad that hangs from the hillsides of California. This Trousdale Estates, Beverley Hills home is by Studio William Heffner but screw up your eyes, stare at the screen, and let your mind wander to episodes of Mad Men. The setting is spectacular and the house a mid century modern marvel.
