Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 7 Jun 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

Here is Stella blending right in to the sheep skin on our Bertoia Diamond chair.
– Iris

While Mario the cat (named for Mario Batali due to his both coloring, his rock n roll ‘tude and his gourmet tastes) isn’t technically on people furniture, I thought the fact that he had confiscated Shiloh’s dog bed still counts. After all, it’s a pet on a (pet’s) piece of furniture!

Please find attached a picture of our British shorthair cat “Dulce”. Her name means “sweet” in Spanish and that really defines her very well.
– Anne-Cécile & Juan Antonio (Brussels, Belgium)

This is Mose, he is fat. I think it’s the ice cream.
– Jacob

This is Stefy on her favorite pouff. I’ve found her five years ago, very sick, sad and with her three small kittens. Now she’s very healthy and happy, and so are her babies…i have kept them with me all three of them. I have a total number of eight cats, all rescued from terrible situations. My house is small but extremely fun!!

Here is Flynn enjoying a nap on his favorite chair!

Pumpkin resting on my newly upholstered outdoor sofa. He looks great in orange!

Because I didn’t get very many pet entries for this post I thought I’d include some gratuitous photos of some of my cats on various pieces of furniture.
We’ve got Milo on my old dining table, Phoebe on an African camping chair a friend gave me, a plethora of cats scattered about my office, and Edgar asleep on the Ikea-hacked baby changetable.

An extra WINK

A sponsor of ours, Kristen Devries, sent me a sample of a new product her shop (Kir Devries) is carrying and I wanted to plug it because she’s been a great sponsor to us for some time now, her product is such a great idea, and she’s going through a really rough time these days (I won’t get into the gory details because she might kill me but let’s just say that some men are scum) and it sounds like she could use a little extra help. So, this product she sent me is an all in one household & laundry cleaning ultra concentrate.

Do you know what this stuff does? It replaces 48 bottles of household cleaner or washes 95 loads of laundry. It’s such a fantastic concept because I have a zillion bottles of cleaners (why I don’t know) and every time I look under the sinks at all of them I get irritated. According to Kristen this cleaner works on carpets, shampooing pets, cleaning jewelry, making hand soap and so much more. I decided to use some to make a glass cleaner (mixed with water and vinegar) and a general household cleaner (mixed with water). I bought some water bottles at the dollar store and mixed them up in those so they’re ready to use. (I forgot to get cute labels).

Since a little of this concentrate goes a LONG way, I might even try it as a laundry detergent. It works wonders and I am stoked to try it out on everything. (P.S. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, hypoallergenic and ph neutral). Get your own bottle of goodness here. And while you are there, check out all the other great products she carries…I just found the CUTEST bento and snack boxes! Thanks Kristen!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve got a busy weekend ahead filled with errands, chores around the house and other boring stuff. Hope you all have better things planned. 🙂 Thought I’d share some more photos from the fabulous French site du côté de chez vous (previous post here). FYI: They have lots of great small space solutions (some photos included below) for those of you who have emailed us begging for help in that area.

Reader request – bathroom vanities

Posted on Thu, 3 Jun 2010 by KiM

Sorry for my lack of reader request posts lately – things have been a little hairy for me (and with 9 cats now I mean that in every sense of the word). This one comes from Brooke: “I have one request: bathroom vanity’s using antique dressers. I am renting an apartment, and going to school to become a designer… and once I am all done and find a place of my own – I will be sure to find a fixer upper… and in that fixer upper will be many fab finds such as a vintage dresser vanity!” I adore dressers repurposed as vanities so I was shocked to find out I didn’t have that many photos of this brilliant idea. So below are some vintage dressers, tables, maybe some not so vintage dressers, and even an Ikea kitchen island.
