Monday’s pets on furniture – part 1

Posted on Mon, 1 Feb 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s REALLY dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and please don’t just send me closeups of your pet!!!)

I’m an architect from São Paulo Brazil, and I just couldn’t resist sending you the pics of my 1 meter Maine Coon cat! His name is Whiskey, and he just loves to sit-sleep-walk all over things that don’t belong to him! So I’m sending you some pics of him on my pillow, and getting ready to jump on my 3 legged chair!

I’d like to submit my darling Grendel for ‘pets on furniture’. Grendel passed away suddenly last Sunday of a blood clot, he was a very healthy and frisky boy up until that day (the photo of him on the fridge was taken a week before he died). My sweetheart and I are very grateful for the seven great years we had him.

These photos are of Griff on the upstairs leather sectional- where he technically is not supposed to lay. But he’s so darn cute, I let him. 😉

Our dog Diesel likes to jump on every table we have in our house – but every time I seem to get the camera out to take a photo of him, he jumps off! The first photo is as close as I could get (this is our lovely dining table made from an old antique door that my Dad made for us). The second photo is his other favourite spot curled up on the end of our 3 seater couch!

“My Norfolk terrier mix, Hank Jr. loves hanging out with his buddies.
I thought you might like this shot of Hank’s LA “cousins”, my best friends dogs, Luis, Norm & Vito.
Last pic. Hank hanging with his LA cousins on their lovely Ralph Lauren chairs.”

Here is my greyhound mix, Sammy, fast asleep on “his” sofa. It is an antique I inherited and in the (perhaps futile) hope of keeping it nice I’ve laid towels on it to protect the upholstery.

This is my two-year-old longhair dachshund Bodhi.  He’s a double dapple and has one blue eye and one brown eye, but it always comes out looking strange in photos.  What’s funny about this is a put him in this chair just for a picture.  He’d never seemed to notice the chair prior to this, but now I can’t seem to get the dog OUT of the chair.  As you can see from my dog and my furniture, I’m quite a fan of the color brown.

This is my Harliquin Great Dane, Artimis, who thinks this wicker loveseat is HIS!  Even when someone is on it…he’ll crawl up and sit on them as if to say ‘This is MY seat, thank-you!’
This is my female brindle Great Dane, Ursula!  On rare occasions when Artimis leaves the loveseat….Ursula jumps on the opportunity to get on it, too!  They ‘LOVE’ this loveseat!!
One is of my black cat, Scout, with Ursula on the bed.

Here is a pic of my black lab/basset hound dogs Roscoe and Bo on a couch in my store in boston.

This is my 10 month old Westie Myles. And yes he is more important than my Henredon leather sofa.

I’ve attached a picture of my daughter’s cat that I hope you will consider for your Monday pets on furniture post.  I decided not to photograph the whole settee that Ben is on because it was a Montreal street find (the furniture not the cat) and is damaged and kind of ugly on the bottom and left side.  Anyway I thought the black cat on the red velvet looked cool.  Hope you think so too.

Casey Dunn

Happy Friday everyone! Today is one of my Fridays off from the day job so I am going to begin a little house project here that I’ve been wanting to start for months (well, in reality, since I bought this place). I’m not going to say much about it until it’s done – I will say it’s a small in-the-meantime project to deal with some current UGLY that I cannot live with anymore. So while I gulp down a cup of green tea I thought I would share with you all another photographer friend of Robin (yesterday was Ryann Ford) based in Austin, Texas. Introducing the stellar photography of Casey Dunn. (I am in love with the stairs in the first photo and the black tiled bathroom).

Ryann Ford

A reader named Robin emailed us recently about some photographers based in Austin, Texas whom she knows and thought we might like to share their work with our readers. I thought I’d start with Ryann Ford, who specializes in architecture, interiors and travel. In the first three years of her career, Ryann had the best job imaginable -she lived out of her suitcase while working with Resorts and Great Hotels magazine, photographing hotels all over the world. Sounds like a dream job to me. Jealousy aside, her photography is spectacular and it seems Austin has some pretty hip and happenin’ homes…(Thanks Robin!)

Charleston Homes remodel

Posted on Wed, 27 Jan 2010 by KiM

Nataleigh emailed Jo and I the other day asking our advice on a vintage chair she was thinking of purchasing (which she thankfully did because it was REALLY cute) and also sent us a link to photos (taken by Chris Colegrove) of a home her mother, Wendy Roach, remodeled for someone a few years ago. The name of her company is Charleston Homes, located in Fort Worth, Texas. It is a beautiful house with stunning views. I can’t decide what I prefer more – the deck and huge party dock, the 2 story wall of windows, the front door, the open kitchen shelving, the HUGE bathroom…(And Nataleigh, a 24 year old recent college graduate, has promised to send us photos of her first home that her mom also remodeled.
