The brief was to update this apartment in Sydney’s heritage listed interwar Free Classical style Astor building. What resulted was sophisticated modern living while respecting and restoring the heritage bones. The stunning inner city Sydney views are an added bonus. My favourite part? The new gently curving entry, a feature that seems as if it was always part of the fabric of the building. By Madeleine Blanchfield Architects

Sorana Kfir, a designer in Tel Aviv, reached out to us about this apartment she designed for her client, who took it over after her parents passed away. Sorana planned the new layout and decor of the space, and though it appears very modern in its transformation, there are pieces left from the homeowner’s past as well as some remnants of the old space reused as I’ll point out below. It’s now an eclectic and homey space.

The hutch above was lined with tiles from the old backsplash. Love that!

The vertical light feature at the end of the hallway to the bedrooms was a partition originally located at the entrance of the apartment and was reworked to serve a new purpose.

According to the bio on New York designer Sasha Bikoff’s website, her aesthetic is 18th century French Rococo mixed with 1960s Space Age Modern, 1970s French Modernism and 1980s Italian Memphis Milano, which she executes with bright and colorful fabrics and rare antiques. Proof of this is her wildly eclectic and vintage filled apartment in Greenwich Village. It’s fun and flirty and I could move right in and have a blast.

With 10 days to go to Christmas I thought I would try to add a bit more festive vibes to the blog (since neither Jo nor I partake in any Christmas decorating) with this beautiful 49 sq m apartment in Sweden dolled up for the holidays. Home of 20 year old decorator Simon Olsson, it’s a delicious melange of white, grey and black and is filled with vintage finds. So cozy and the sparse pine trees and lighting really make it special.
