Rockin’ retro style

Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 by KiM

I love the reto style of this home styled by the fabulous Katrine Martensen-Larsen (and photographed by Kira Brandt). It’s home to Swedish Christin Johansson, her husband Henrik Roloff and their two young children. A fun mix of vintage retro furnishings and funky ceramics, this home has colour and spunk, a nice change from typical Swedish homes.

Sarah Dorio

Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 by midcenturyjo

Passion and a love. A belief in beauty and the dreams of a child. Cameras and travel and pictures and passion and a love. A love of photographs and images of other worlds, other people. Photographer Sarah Dorio’s work is all about a journey from her first camera at age eight to these gorgeous images of stunning homes. You see it’s Sarah’s passion that makes these rooms “pop”. (Oooh am I actually going to say passion pop? Ooooh yes I did!) The heart and soul of photographers are often seen in the images they capture. Do these rooms speak to you? Maybe because Sarah Dorio caught their essence through her lens.

P.S Don’t miss her other portfolios. Stunning!

Firmdale Hotels

Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2010 by KiM

To end of the week I thought I’d show some photos of one of the best designed hotels I’ve ever seen. The Firmdale hotels includes 6 London locations and a new one that opened in SoHo in October. “Firmdale Hotels’ owners, Tim and Kit Kemp believe that ‘hotels should be living things, not stuffy institutions’. Kit Kemp has designed all of the interiors in a fresh contemporary English style. Her mixture of colour and texture, modern and antique together with an impressive art collection, has combined to create a unique look and style.” The colours and patterns are gorgeous and these rooms look SO comfortable I want to crawl through my monitor and into one of the beds.

Katie Ridder

I am always in awe of a designer who can mix lots of patterns, textures and colours in one room and make it appear so effortless and cohesive. Katie Ridder is one of those designers. Jo featured some of her work back in ’07, and I needed to showcase more of her work after drooling profusely over her portfolio again recently. I adore every single one of the spaces below. Gorgeous!

Stalking on the roof top

Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2010 by midcenturyjo

Up on the roof watching the world go by. Nothing like a modern penthouse dropped down slap bang on the roof of an old warehouse complex. Up here it’s just the birds and no pesky neighbours to right or left. Modern simplicity and a pretty cool art collection. Real estate stalking again. Link here while it lasts.
