Sophisticated by the sea

Certainly no beach shack this Hamptons weekender for a young city couple is part mid century, part transitional, a little whimsical and always with a subtle sophistication. I never understand why people actually leave these “weekenders” to return to the work-a-day rat race. I’d be investigating work from home options. Bridgehampton home by interior design studio Dumais.

A light and airy open plan was central to Framework‘s renovation of this one bedroom apartment on the fifth floor of the Schouwenhoek, an original apartment building by P.A. Warners, one of the founders of the Amsterdam School of modernist design. Gone are the small rooms branching off a central corridor while a rounded, concrete staircase beckons one up to a rooftop terrace and chillout room. Stylish, modern living while respecting the bones of this modernist building.

Bringing the country to the city

Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2020 by KiM

I would have never in a million years guessed this was a townhouse in Notting Hill, London. But it makes total sense once learning this home was designed by the gurus of the reclaimed, the salvaged, the well-worn. Retrouvius, you’ve created magic converting this city home into a piece of history. Lime-washed walls, a marble sink from Turkey, silk fabric from Fez, pine planks from a cheese factory, a 15th century fireplace, onyx from a bankrupt chimney shop and many other treasures make this home truly unique.

An elegant Parisian apartment

Kim introduced us to the oh so chic portfolio of interior designer Fabrizio Casiraghi here but when I stumbled on his reworking of this apartment in the 9th arrondissement it was love at first sight. The neutral palette warmed by terracottas and red, the clever mix of classic and modern, the soft light filtered through floating drapes. Petite but perfect.

A log cabin lake house

What was once a dilapidated mess is now the perfect log cabin lake house getaway with tons of rustic charm. Warm modern furnishings and lighting create a beautiful counterbalance to the log structure. Stunning design by Jean Stoffer.
